EXTREME7GEN3 SOUND PROBLEMS

thanks for you time btw :)

No problem.

I've just been having a play around with the analogue jacks.

Where a connection is recognised the small icon on the right hand side of the audio manager is highlighted. Where nothing is plugged in it's greyed out (see image below).

Also when you plug in or unplug an audio jack you should get a pop up telling you this.

Try unplugging and plugging in the audio jacks and see if anything happens.

i have just been doing that actually...tried the other desktop speakers as well.....nothing is happening. i think the jacks are dead

Unfortunately I can't think of anything else.

As you say it just looks like the audio jacks aren't doing anything when something is plugged in.

As you've tried several devices the most likely suspect is faulty audio jacks.

You could try disabling all those HDMI audio devices in Device Manager and see if it makes any difference.

may as well try it.......cant think of anything else....will take it back tomorrow and swap it for the msi board.....I am not pleased with asrock at the moment

thx anyway mate.

Which MSI board?

You need to be careful with the amount of PCI-E lanes if you have SLI'd graphics cards and a RevoDrive.

Yea I know....was looking at the gd80......There is a problem with the 3rd graphics slot at x4 and you get reduced writes on the revo. Have been trying to sort it out for 5 weeks now with asrock....in the end they said either run with one graphics card or get a ssd....thought that was a brilliant solution....thats why i spent a lot of hard earned cash on quality stuff....so i can not use it....nice one asrock

thats why in the end I managed to scrape together another 75 quid to get this board...and to be fair....the revo is running at full speed......but its no good when you have no sound!!!!!!

I am just fed up with the whole situation with asrock....so I may as well take a hit on the revo write speeds and get a dependable board

It sounds like you've been unlucky with the Extreme7.

I've not seen many complaints about them and the screenshot I posted was when I was trying out the onboard audio on my Extreme7 and it worked fine.

I normally use an Asus Xonar DX but I enabled the onboard audio, installed the Realtek drivers and it worked straight away.

Just a thought - have you checked in device manager/system devices to see if the microsoft HDA(High definition Audio) drivers are installed and working ok? I ask this because I seem to remember that sometimes this driver does not always install correctly in windows when you install windows, and until this driver is installed afaik the high def audio drivers from realtek will go through install but not function.Maybe worth checking? Can't think of anything over and above what has already been suggested/tried. If it has not installed you can normally get it to install via windows update or download the driver directly from microsoft and then install.

mate ive had the exact same issue here, after a few days the jacks on my onboard didnt seem to detect the speakers or anything for that matter and i have an extreme 7 as well. i was going to buy a sound card eventually, which i did just a little earlier and now im back in business. ive tried searching everywhere for the same issue and this is the first other that ive known for this to happen!

try swapping it for another extreme7, if still doesn't work buy a sound card :)

LOL....Yes....spend £230 on a piece of kit and if it dont work then not to worry....nice 1

i took the board back today and got a Z68X-UD7 instead......was up and running in 40 mins and everything is rocking.....say no more really.
