Hi all bit of a weird issue here, my son's PC was having an issue where it just would not boot, there was a red light on the CPU indicator on the mobo, specs below

16gb Corsair 3200
2600x
B450 MSI Gaming Pro Carbon AC
Nvidia 1080 GTX
EVGA 850w Gold Rated PSU
EVGA CLC 280
500gb NVME
500gb SSD
Phanteks P300 case

I figured the CPU was potentially bad due to the light on the mobo so figured I would replace that and his mobo, GPU and Ram.

Got him the following
5600x
6700XT
16gb TridentZ 3600 c16
Gigabyte Aorus Elite B550

So reusing the PSU and the CLC, NVME, SSD and case.

Fired it up, nothing... Got another 700w PSU, brand new out the box, still nothing

Took it all out of the case and put it all together outside the case, every thing fired up nicely.

Put it all in the case, powered on and checked everything, everything is running nice. Updated windows, installed latest Ryzen master, rebooted, turned it off, turned it back on, everything is fine.

Powered it down, left it off for a few hours, tried to power it back on and I get a brief flash from the LEDs and then nothing...

Just can't figure out what the issue could be.. why would it be so intermittent? I'm of the opinion the other CPU ram and mobo are actually fine now and the problem is elsewhere

Thoughts anyone?

have you got a motherboard standoff not in the right place that could be shorting it out?
You know I think you might be onto something, the P300 case didn't need any standoffs screwing in place, and at first I didn't really think the case could be the issue, but after swapping bits out and powering it up outside the case I'm wondering if the case is the issue now.

Wonder if one of the kids has spilt something in the front of it or something and that's causing a short by the power button or if a weld on the new mobo is touching somewhere.

Weird though that the new setup has exactly the same problem as the old, I've ordered a new case to swap it all into tonight to see if it makes a difference

Put it all in a new case, booted up nicely, rebooted it and it's stuck, lights and fans on but not posting.. powered it off, won't power back on, left it 20mins, powered back on, rebooted it, same issue, lights and fans on won't post.

Totally bizarre

PSU, SSD, NVME, Monitor... I'm starting to wonder if the PSU is playing up, if I leave it unplugged for a while, then plug it in it will boot, if I tell it to restart in Windows it will hang, if I shut it down in Windows, it shuts down then I can power it back on

Use the quote button please.

Psu is next logical option ,but would also use stock cpu cooler just to rule things in or out.

Maybe build the pc outside the case.
Done that, it's now running on the stock cooler as the new case was too small to fit the CLC and 6700X as the cards so damn big, Corsair Icue 220T case

Tried to power it on this morning after leaving it plugged in but switched off all night and it won't power on, I've left it unplugged, will try it again tonight. I'm leaning towards faulty PSU, it's an EVGA one so I think still in warranty as only 2years old at the most
