Hi,

I've recently been having issues with downloading NZBs. I currently use Virgin Media and am on the 50mb Internet package.

When I would use newsgroups a few weeks ago, speeds would be as high as 5 MB/s. Now speeds barely reach 100 KB/s, and it stays like this all the time.

Is there any explanation for this and any way to bring my speeds back to normal?

Thanks.

Try connecting over multiple ports incase they're blocking the default ones and preferably over SSL assuming your provider supports it.

i have the 100mb package and im the same, sometimes its painful to watch as its so slow.
have had virgin out 7-8 times and they haven't fixed it, used giganews which used to be great and now for me is terrible so changed to astraweb and although its cheaper still isnt great. the fastest connection i get is the virgin server with its 10 days retention and it still only uses between 10-50% of my so called 100mb. i have gave up trying as im just to busy just now

i got 50meg connection ..had it over a year i always get my 50 meg 24-7 if your port is 119 you wont get 50 meg ..change your port go onto astraweb and look for the port they use ...John

I use 'news.virginmedia.com'. My apologies If my information isn't sufficient enough. I don't know a great deal on this.
news.virginmedia.com uses port 119, so you are possibly experiencing throttling at peak times. To circumvent this you'll need to get a paid usenet subscription and use port 443.

It could also be due to a line outage which has recently been affecting people's usenet speeds. I'm not certain whether news.virginmedia.com is directly affected by this.

VirginMedia usenet servers are hosted in Amsterdam, but there has been a break in the undersea cable connection. Until that is repaired then expect slow speeds.

just sign upto astraweb and get a $25 one off payment for 180GB or until you us it up ,and us it until virgin comes back and then you can us it has a back up,thats what i have done, and its full speed on my 50Mbs

Usenet-News offer 200GB for $22 and I've found them very very good. Terrible website but good service.
