Ok,
I have just received my new wireless n pci adaptor and its connected fine to my virgin media box, which is wireless n.
Now, the speed of my internet has gone through the floor. I have installed all drivers etc but thats the limit of my networking knowledge.
If it helps my router is DIR 615 which is the standard one used by Virgin Media i think. I am currently on the 20mb package.

I would be willing to buy a new router etc if it means it will work properly :)

I mean speed as in general browsing, youtube takes along time, bbc sport taking long time to load etc.
That help?

Yeah, doesn't sound like that's the Wireless to blame, sounds more like the sync speed of the Router in general (which happens time to time).

Ok,
How can i change that? better router?
Im guessing the one Virgin gives out isn't great.
The sync speed seems to be just my pc because my netbook/laptop both only wireless g cards are nice and fast

Hmm well that changes things then, if it were the line/sync speed, it would be the same on all hardware. i.e. PC's, Laptops, etc. If the other hardware are fine, then that does point to something specific with that PC.

First things first, let's do a speed test from the laptop and then same again from the slow PC. This will prove that it is not the line/sync speed (Router), but something else. (i.e. both should bring back the same result give or take).

Something like http://www.speedtest.net/ and post the results back here. :)

Once we've done that, we can perhaps take a look at the settings for the Wireless N card. Do you have good signal strength?

Schizophonic, it is a wireless n pci adaptor. The netbook and other laptop and phone are perfect. Its just my pc or the adaptor. I have installed and reinstalled the drivers for it but its not doing much. Should i unplug it manually and reset like some do with ram etc or will it make no difference?

its nothing else to do with your components, has no effect with your wireless.

Is it possible to hook your PC directly with the router? (wired) and test speedtest.net?

Right i have just plugged in a ethernet cable but it hasnt auto connected instead it is showing me options to connect to my wireless. I have tried this but it wont accept my key.
I have looked at the settings and it is saying its wep but on other pcs it is WPA2 which is what is set it up to be.

So it seems the pc has found its own connection or something?

Ok, its not even connecting via ethernet.
I have downloaded the latest drivers via asus website and at the end of the installation it says realtek network controller not found. If deep sleep mode please plug the cable.

There is a cable plugged in to both pc and router....

The computer is not connected via ethernet? yet you've downloaded drivers? Tell me you did this on another PC?

Also getting drivers will not often be the solution to everything, it could be simple. You running Windows XP or 7?

Yeh downloaded drivers on netbook :p
7

I have installed wireless drivers, turned off plugged in adaptor, turned on, connected and my internet is what i expected :)

I will now move back to my bedroom and see if were still good.
