getting a 5870card and was looking at running 3 monitors.i already have a 24inch 1900x1200 and also i have an old monitor.which i think is only 1200x800 res.do the 3 monitors have to be the same res and size.or could i just get another cheap 1200x800 monitor and use them as side views.?thanks

To run Eyefinity, the monitors must support the same resolution. To run multiple displays, you can use any monitor you want, but will look odd!

you using it for gaming or just more desktop area? If you want to game you ideally need 3 identical res monitors otherwise you'll need to set it to the lowest res monitor in the configuration for all screens.

ok thanks for reply, was looking at gaming.just have to try to get another 2 1900x1200 later.i got one of them dgm monitors when overclockers was doing them cheap.

i've got 2 cheap samsungs and a nice expensive dell in the middle. the colours are a bit off, as is contrast, but you spend so little time looking at the outer monitors it doesn't really matter

EDIT: forgot to say, all 1900x1200 :D

so with 3 1900x1200.what res is it set at.and is it worth it.i play fps mainly but like f1 games,so looking forward to f12010.what would that be like with 3 monitors.

res atm with bezel compensation is 6128 iirc x 1200. it's 5760x1200 without compensation on for me, but that'll differ depending on the thickness of the bezels.

DEFINITELY worth it! any game i've got that can't run it i've basically given up on cos i really cannot stand a single monitor now.. sad i know :D

racing and fps games really do benefit from it; i mainly play l4d2, dirt 2, metro 2033, supcom etc, and they all work fine on it (metro you have to really drop the settings for, but it's still purdy)

hope that helps

i see u have 2 graphic cards.how will 1 5870card do.will i have to get another.sorry just working it out and may be a bit over the price range for me.

ahh, see there in lies the big issue atm. my 5870 is doing zilch, since the driver doesn't work properly for 5970/5870 combos, so i'm on just the 5970.

the 5870 will do alright, you probably won't be able to use much AA if any atall. but to give you a rough idea, my 5970 with everything maxed and 8xAA runs l4d2 at around 120fps @ stock clocks, if i push it to 900/1150 i get ~10% boost in fps.

watercool it and get clocks higher if you want to squeeze a few more fps out of it :)

just waiting for the waterblocks to come back instock.but will use it without the block for a bit to see what its like.and see if i need another one for finity.thanks for the info mate.
