had an eye test 4 years ago, another one today...understand the ADD figure changing from 0.75 to 1.0 means need stronger glasses for close/reading, but unsure about the sph and axis figures...

what does the change in sph figures mean? distance/near vision both worse?
from what I can read the higher number, either + or - means a stronger lens but seems unlikely my left eye has improved, and again not sure what it means if it's went from a - to a + number (right eye)

the test 4 year ago...
Right - Sph -0.50, Cyl +0.75, Axis 80
Left - Sph -1.25, Cyl +1.75, Axis 92
add 0.75 R+L

todays..
R - Sph 0.5, Cyl 0.75, Axis 85
L - Sph -0.5, Cyl 1.75. Axis 87
add 1.0 R+L

hmm...so the right eye has went from -0.50 4 years ago (myopia/nearsightedness..prescription for distance) to +0.50 today...which is for hyperopia/farsightedness...I'm just not sure what that means! both distance and close vision has got worse but now it's better to have + lenses?

kinda same for the left, it's went from -1.25 to -0.5 so that seems like it's better/weaker prescription

I'm sure i'm missing something simple here...

yupp, that sounds about right...prescription made to try balance out both so just looking at the numbers prob doesn't make sense...I've not spoke to the opticians yet but will ask when I go to pick up the new glasses (going to try varifocals) whenever they're ready
