Eyefinity and gaming issues

After chasing 2 more NEC 24WMGX3s on auction and getting the active displayport adaptor delivered yesterday I finally got the 3 monitor setup going on eyefinity.

First of all having the 3 monitors is great for the 2D work I do (software coding), but I keep them as standard extended desktops rather than grouping the 3 panels in CCC as I just cant work one one hooooge desktop!

When gaming I put the 3 monitors into one group in CCC.

Installed the 9.12 hotfix and got Dirt2 going, which is great in Eyefinity.

After not being able to get L4D2 or TF2 going across the 3 monitors for some time I finally sussed it by selecting the 16:9 aspect ratio rather than 16:10. Choosing 16:9 allowed me to choose a higher resolution than 1920x1200. This got both games running across the 3, although I need to somehow sort the crosshairs out.

Quickly tried Empire Total War and Sins of Solar Empire and they look great, although it's a big desktop map to manage!

BC2 Beta wouldnt have it but that's OK, its a beta.

But I just cant' get Grid going. After upping the resolution the first time, the game restarted, but just stutters, flicking the screens on and office, with the audio on a complete stutter. Task manager>end!

Any ideas?

Sorted Grid - switched off the two other monitors, got back into the game video settings, turned everything from Ultra to Low, and quit game. Set back up the CCC group, launched game, chose resolution 5760x1200, and upped the graphics settings until got a smooth running game that looked adequate.

Oddly enough it's the cutscenes between game loads (that show progress etc) that seem jittery when I go too high, rather than the in-game play itself.

Now to figure crosshair settings on FPs's like L4D2.

thanks for that info iv just tried with 2 monitors and it works on eve and sto problem is the split is right down the middle of the screen haha

what problem you having with the crosshairs?

The crosshairs seem to scale with the expansion of the resolution sideways, in effect the crosshairs and it's centre are too large. There seems to be quite a few posts about it after googling, I just need to narrow down a fix. I'll try post some pics of L4D2 and TF2 tonight.

do a google search for "dopefish widescreen fix" it should cure that for you, or at least it did my modern warfare 2 problems

With games u need to set the aspect ration to normal or auto cos u dont want to be playing 16:9/10 across three monitors (actually 48:10!).

BFBC2 works fine for me at 5040x1050. Grid however runs fine unless i add any amount of AA at which point it freezes at launch and the sound stutters and i have to Alt+F4 to exit.

Love it forr BC2 and Dirt2 tho, very immersive (altho the FOV needs fixing in BC2 - they'll do this in the release ;)).

Widescreen fixer works in some games: http://imk.cx/pc/widescreenfixer/

Got any shots of TF2 running? Does the wider FOV give a big advantage?

Sorry Mr but I just tried taking some TF2 screenshots for you with Fraps, and it's only taking shots of the left side of the screen ie half the screen, wonder if thats because the free version with BMP only (no jpg) is limited??

Creed yep I think it was the AA that was causing the issues with Grid, both that and Dirt2 are bloody awesome with the 3 panels huh!

Thanks for the link to the widescreen fixer, hope the guy gets some L4D2 support on that, cheers.

How bout standing back and taking a good old fashioned photo, that'll give a good view of the 3 screens and how TF2 are using them, I'd be very interested to see this too considering the ridiculously cheap price of screens these days

How very retro of you Dutchman! ;)

As requested here's a quick snap this morning, the blur in the left corner due to me taking flash off so as not to wash out the pic :)

Not sure why they aren't working for you.
Sometimes you have to edit the INI files rather than in game, prio to running the app.
And some games such as grid will just not work with a certain amount of AA.
BC2 also works flawlessy for me aswell.

As for the crosshairs, that is a known problem in L4D2, not sure about TF2, the ony fix is to maker it a static crosshair(That is smaller), but this will not change size when firing.

Dopefish's fix also only works for several games.

Such as unreal, bioshock, COD, and several other games which i dont play :p

You should really check:
www.widescreengamingforum.com
There should be answers to all your questions etc on there.

Theres also a bunch of centred HUD's for TF2 L4D, L4D2 etc, which helps a bunch.

Thanks Happy, just some fruits of my very hard labour last year, only got it up and running in the last few days, need a few more passes from the missus to enjoy it.

Cheers for the info unknownsock. TF2 is fine, just need to recheck and sort the crosshair out on L4D2, I remember that for a few weapons the crosshair seemed massive, with the space dead-centre in the crosshair hooge!
