Eyefinity gets owned by NVIDIA Surround

I have never seen such panic among people with good setups trying to justify why its better. Why not come up with a set of benchmarks and the said people can run them and we will see what is faster in the real world ?

There does seem to be a lot of ATI coloured dummies on the floor :)

Because prices change over time. A review will stand for as long as people still own the cards. Also when your spending so much money on a setup people arent as concerned about saving a few quid but are looking for the best performance for their rig. :)

That is not a reason as there are many price to performance comparisons & they are valid for the time & for the people who are paying the prices within the review.
So yes they should also bench within the comparison price range.

If you have this amount of money right now & wanted to buy right now then this is what you can get with that money right now.
If a tri fire setup gave better performance within the same price range then i think the people have a right to know about it.

I take it all the people banging the price/performance drum are using a 5770.

Yes...?

No we are just not fanboys. Im using a 4870. If i really wanted a 5970 / gtx480 i could have one, but isnt needed at the moment.

Just to clarify, we are not saying in anyway your setup is bad, but there are better setups available and cheaper ones giving similiar performance too.

I think if your spending that much on cards and monitors, spending a bit more on the green team's cards isnt going to matter much.

So why does it seem that as soon as anyone starts talking about buying a 4x0 card some tiresome bore always comes wading in banging the price/performance drum.

As somebody mentioned earlier, perhaps we should put together some benchmarks of our own and people with such setups can post their results. We occasionally get this in some threads, I know that my SLI 480's beat every tri-xfire setup in the AvP benchmark. :p And even in the best case scenario of Vantage was only a couple of K from such setups.

actually it's usually heat and noise, price/performance doesn't really come up as often

In bold are both crap.
AVP scales really bad so why use it & Vantage how many games are based on that engine.

Its usually all four, and for good reason IMO.

what good reason? have you used a 460 or 470?

heat? non-issue
noise? not as bad as most people make it out to be
price/performance? well most people will jump on paying the extra £35 for a 470 over 5850 seeing the performance gains you get, same for the 460 over 5830

noise? not as bad as most people make it out to be yet some people on here have rmaed because of it.

fixed

All of your points are subjective and the fact that amd have taken market share from nvidia mean that others do care about heat, noise, power and price. I do agree however at £235 the gtx470 is now a decent buy even with its drawbacks.

Because they are the only numbers I could find on here of people with overclocked tri-fire systems. On more than one occasion I have asked for people with similar setups to post non vantage numbers as I find it a worthless comparison. I'm pretty sure I have also posted higher Haven numbers as well, but once again a test to be taken with a pinch of salt. We should try and get a few threads about pure gaming performance rather than ridiculously optimised for synthetic benchmarks.

well the market share thing is a bit because of there being hardly any GT200 cards through the last half of 2009 and start of 2010

anyone who complains about the heat doesn't know much about modern processors, I think we can agree on that though

noise, ok I kinda agree with you but only if the person is used to hardly any back ground noise, if they work in an office or busy environment, live on a relatively busy street or still go to or have just left school it should be fine for them

power usage, again I kinda agree that it's ridiculous, kinda because the extra 50w over a 5870 even for an hour is only about half a penny so a weeks worth extra will likely only be 2 to 10 pence

Well said, lets agree on some game benchmarks and see what can do what, you never know it may even help all the people asking should i get x over y!

Plus it should be interesting for everyone to read.

Games & games & more games is all that matters.

Running Haven, vantage & AVP just shows that those cards are better at running Haven, vantage & AVP & nothing else as none of those represent the average game scenario.

All right, but apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?

........

Like I said, I would be more than happy to post numbers from other games. I have asked on more than one occasion to see if people could do the same. I guess some body has to start. When I get time I'll run a few tests and post the numbers. No crying about the screen res as it will be high. (1920x1200 minimum)

The witcher, dragon age, X3, NFS: Shift, Fallout 3, Gothic 3 with community patch :p...

Purely because they're the only games I'm playing these days.

I thought this was meant to be multi screen benches.
