Eyefinity gets owned by NVIDIA Surround

Who cares about the price? if your splashing out for 3+ displays it would be madness to quibble about the cost of the cards best suited to drive them...

Cliché car analogy ahoy cap'n!

Why drive a Ferrari? They are noisier, use more fuel, need more cooling and cost much more than a *inset car manufacturer here*

Yeah get some benchmarks up for that, would be interesting to see, or are you just been facetious ?
I'd need someone to supply me with an extra 2 screens first. :p

Roff, remember tn 1080p/1050p screens can come pretty cheap these days. If you already have 2 then the outlay for a 3rd isn't too much. Starting and expanding with a u2410 was painful though. :(

lol, Ah well at least the intention was there :)

(If i should come into some money i will supply you with the screens!)

One million Yen and a return flight to Japan gets you this.

3840 x 2160 native

4096 x 2160 forced

I'll leave a few browser pages open to let Mrs jigger get used to the idea for a while.

Nobody denies the GTX480 is a faster card overall but comparing the two is like comparing a Walrus to a Polar Bear.

Made me chuckle :D

Exactly, just buy a 30" dell / HP and be done with it.

This thread is like pin the tail on the person who hasnt tried or even looked into getting 3 screens  The cheapest GTX 480 costs £390, the cheapest 5870 costs £275, my 3 screens cost me £300...that £100 just bought me my third screen, oh but wait if i wanted to do that with nvidia i'd have to whack out another £390 on a second 480!! when one 5870 manages 5040x1050 perfectly fine!!

Any chance you can do us some benchmarks mate.. What ever game's you have. I am interested in how one 5870 does at that resolution.

As an fps gamer you wouldn't see me touching £100 TN panels with a barge pole... for that matter you wouldn't see me going for 3 panels for gaming anyhow personally I find the bezels too distracting.

As an eve online player I'm quite used to multi display setups :D

I've noticed as a GTX 480 owner, the only people who complain about the noise.heat and power usage of the 4xx series, are those with ATI cards!! very strange!! :D

i'm happy with mine and have no problems with it, i've never been into SLI, but after seeing this review, i might add another one, once i've saved up :)

Not strange & you logic is totally flawed.

It would be strange for someone where noise.heat and power usage matters to them to by a 480 thus they bought an ATI.

[H] already did that, 480 SLI was found to be faster. At which point people started to cry and pull out the price/performance shtick which they always do when the more expensive product is found to be faster. Personally I find this to be utterly tiresome and is why I would like to try and get together a bunch of tests at set resolutions people can agree on, so we can all test our hardware and compare it to systems out there (built in benchmarks and FRAPS min/max/avg would be good). It is something that everyone can get involved in, even those AMD shareholders who have a vested interest in talking the company up. ;)

The more expensive should be faster, but from some of the comments here some people suggest that you can get Tri fire for the same money as 480 SLI & that the Tri fire would be faster & if that indeed is the case then they have a point.

And it is faster

Lets see some benchmarks from you then, you know some real life figures ?
Because i will be honest so far the Nvidia users seem happy to put some up where as the ATI users talk about it but we see nothing.

This is not a dig i have a genuine interest in seeing some figures as do i imagine others.

:D or as strange as your comment!!

If not pretending to be an expert about an GPU ive never seen or used is flawed logic then fine, you'll notice i haven't critized ATI, because i've never owned one, so i can't make a sensible, intelligent opinion about them, unlike some!! ;)

The only benchmark apart from Vantage that anyone seems to have posted tri-fire results for is the AvP benchmark, but apparently that does not count as it does not scale well. Which is a weak argument. I guess we can only use results that are a best case scenario for x-fire.

I just had to say that polar bears are not lean by any stretch of the imagination. They need a lot of blubber to survive those freezing waters! :p
