Hi all, ive just picked up 3 dell 24" monitors, i have msi twin fro 6950
i know i need adapter to make all 3 do eyefinity, but which adapter do i need?

thanks
Ali

You'll need an active displayport adapter (important that's an active adapter) for the third sceen to be used. Or a micro displayport to displayport cable if your monitors have a displayport connection.

Since we dont know what the dell monitor model is.

sorry forgot to mention model! they are P2411H, they only have dvi & vga connection.

is there any active DP adapters recommended or they are all as good as each other?

I think its the sapphire active micro displayport to dvi adapter thats usually recommended.

You don't have to have an active one.....I used to have 3 x 24" Benq's running on a 6950 and that was with 2 x DVI connections and one DP>VGA passive adaptor.

Had no issues with this at all and ran at 5760 x 1080 with no noticeable difference between the DVI connected displays and the VGA connected one

I use the sapphire one which was pretty cheap, its model code is 44000-02-40R

If you need a mini DP then you can buy a mini DP version of use an adaptor

You didn't need the active adaptor in this instance because you were using DP to VGA. Effectively the DP to VGA adaptor is "active" as it is converting the signal.

DP to DVI requires an active adaptor to provide the third signal for the DVI connection - The HD5xxx and upwards only have two clock generators (RAMDAC) for DVI/ HDMI connections. The clock generator is not required for DP, this is how you can run a DP native monitor off the card at the same time as two DVI without additional adaptors.

My eyefinitiy set up on my own 6950 TFIII was set up as 1x DVI, 1xHDMI and 1x Mini-DP to Full DP (adaptor came with card) connected to DP to DVI adaptor (pn 44000-02-40R).

There can be some confusion with the terms passive and active. The cheap Sapphire adaptor 44000-02-40R is an active adaptor but when some say active they are actually referring to the really expensive adaptors that are powered from USB. This is what you do NOT need.
