eyefinity on 7950

hi all

im looking into eyefinity on me 7950 but im a bit confused.

ive got dual link dvi and two mini displayport sockets on my card

is it just as simple as connecting one monitor dvi and the other two via mini dp one in each.

and ive read about active and passive dp adaptors which do i need.

also i would like to crossfire in the future do you have to connect to that card or is it all sorted with the bridge.

these may be noobish questions but thanks for the help

If your monitors have a DP connector then you won't need an active adapter just a miniDP to DP adapter/cable.

If you go Crossfire then you can only use the outputs from the first card so you leave the monitors connected as they are and don't connect any monitors to the second card.

A single HD 7950 may struggle in some games at 5760x1080 resolution.

What monitors do you have/are you getting?

that my friend is a massive minefield.

im just looking about for the moment to see what there is i love the look of the http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-049-AS

as they have slim sides

have you any cheaper Recommendations

just looked more into it and need active adaptors which are a bit mor but cheap than monitors with dp

I can't say that I'm any expert on choosing monitors.

For that I'd suggest you start a thread in the Monitors section asking for recommendations.

The monitor you linked only has a HDMI connection that you'll really want to use.

So your connections would be:

1) DVI to HDMI via adapter or cable
2) HDMI to HDMI cable (I assume your HD 7950 has one)
3) Active miniDP to HDMI adapter then a HDMI cable (you may be able to use an active miniDP to DVI adapter then a DVI to HDMI adapter/cable but I'm not sure on that)

Just as an example with a monitor like this: Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24" Widescreen LED Monitor - Midnight Grey it would be:

1) DVI to DVI cable
2) miniDP to DP cable
3) miniDP to DP cable

You're welcome.

Having monitors with DVI/HDMI and DP makes things easier but they're generally more expensive.

Having monitors without DP means you've got to start adding at least one active adapter.

The first thing to do is set yourself a budget and see what people recommend.
