I've been going over in my mind to buy eyefinity for some time... but given the fact I have to buy an adapter and I already have two 4890s, doesn't it make more sense to get triplehead?

I been trying to weigh up the benefits of buying a 5870 but I can't find any yet? Id have to run my games much lower due to power capabilities... and buy the £70 adapter for my 3rd monitor?

What do you guys think is my best option given my current setup?

depends really as the TH2G is resolution limited where as eyefinity isnt as such. I have gone eyefinity personally as i want to use all 5760*1080 of my screens :D

Never mind that, Ati cards have always had very poor support for TripleHead2Go, 5040x1050 is not supported. I think the max you can get is 4320x 900. So Eyefinity is the way to go.

Bah lol I need 6144x1152 so I think it is out of the question...

O well atleast that cleared up my dreams of an effortless setup! If I haven't blown my brains across my walls by the end of my finals next week I may purchase.

I've had both. Ran a TripleHead with a 4870X2, max res was 5040*1050(they updated the firmware for this). Now running a 5970 at 6016*1200.

TBH, apart from the resolution there isn't a difference that I could see in the image quality etc. The main difference is price. I just sold my triplehead for £95. So if you've got cards and are happy with the resolution, its a good way to go.

But if you've got the money then a 5xxx series card (+ cost of DP adapter) is a better longer term solution for higher resolutions.

Oh, the other difference is bezel compensation that has been included in the Catalyst 10.3+ drivers, whereas you had to rely on game support for bezel compensation on the TH2GO

Cheers. Will a 5870 power my needs? That is all I am worried about tbh. I mean 2 4890s allow me to play every single game at maximum settings, including Arma 2 etc... I don't want to lose that ability.

So what I'm asking is how much will i have to turn down games in eyefinity mode? I won't bother purchasing it if I have to play games at normal settings, these days I play games for the environments and graphics so losing the ability to appreciate that would not be an "upgrade" for me.

Any ideas from any eyefinity owners out there? :)

Naturally the higher the resolution the lower the setting you must employ to run decent FPS. AA is the main thing I need to turn down, still I cant tell any significant differance most of the time between 8xAA and 2xAA. I was the same, wanted max settings all the time, but the immersion from the Triple head far outweighs any reduction in quility setting you may need to employ.

I'd agree, that you will have to comprise with some settings mainly AA when your running a triple head resolution, and maybe some items like shadows, but it's on a game by game basis. Even though I'm running a 5970 you can't max everything to ultra in settings when your running a 6016*1200 resolution.

But I'd go with a lower setting anytime to get my 3 screens over 8*AA.
