Hi, just browsing the net, and started reading a thread on some other forum about Eyefinity.
Just wondering if this is possible on my pc?

i have a HD 5850 reference, with 2 x dvi, 1 x displayport, 1 x hdmi

i have a
Samsung syncmaster 2233SN with a VGA connection only 1920 x 1080 (using vga to dvi adapter)
NEC Multisync 1990FX with DVI or VGA 1280 x 1024
Acer 19" monitor 1280 x 1024

currently just using top 2 as an extended display, but have the Acer one in the attic.

So is it possible? and if so, what adapter is required for the displayport?
thinking VGA to DisplayPort adapter

Nope. They really have to be all the same resolution. You can run extended desktop but not game with in Eyefinity properly.

Technically you can but the largest monitor will down-size to the highest common available resolution (in your case 1280*1024) so your 1080 monitor would look stupid as it would be the wrong aspect ratio and resolution.

You could run a 3 monitor extended desktop by using an active DisplayPort to whatever connection you need adapter.

For Eyefinity all the monitors have to run at the same resolution so the 1920x1080 would have to run at 1280x1024 the same as the other two (yuck!).

I seem to recall reading about a work around for this some time ago but I can't remember where, how to do it or how successful it is.

thx, how about 3 x 19" monitors each at 1280 x 1024?

would it even look decent?
ie. 2 using vga to dvi adapter
1 using dvi to displayport adapter

The adapter situation is OK and wouldn't make it look bad but having not seen a 3x 1280*1024 set up I couldn't say if that itself is worthwhile.

I'm guessing monitors at that resolution are fairly old and would probably have thick bezels. Might not look that great if that's the case but that's a personal preference.

For Eyefinity (or any multi-monitor setup if you ask me) you don't need matching monitors, but it's soooooo much better if they do.

I just upped my setup to 3x Hannspree 28", bought one ages ago in 2009/2010, recently spotted one on ebay going cheap so snapped it up then a couple of weeks later another one. Top draw!

Hello Guys

Its often asked, Can you mix different resolution monitors with Eyefinity?
IE: 1x24" (1920x1080 native) and 2x20" (1600x900 native) monitors.

Its always been yes, but the large monitor always adops the lower resolution and in turn blurs the image at full screen.

Well, I have worked out how to run these 3 monitors with different resolutions in eyefinity without the loss of visual quality.

This is how:
Note: Running Catalyst 11.1a Hotfix and CCC2

1: Ensure only the middle 24" monitor is active and displaying your desktop.
2. Open CCC2 and navigate to My Digital Flat-Panels/HDTV Support
3. Under Predefined and Custom HDTV Formats, select Add
4. Using the arrows provided, create a new 1080p 1600x900 resolution.
5. Select Accept.
6. Select the new custome resolution and Apply Format.
Note 1: You may have to close CCC2 before you can apply the new resolution.
Note 2: Your 24" monitor will now be displaying 1600x900 in the center of the screen. (black boarder around the desktop).
7. Navigate to Desktop Management/Creating and Arranging Desktops
8. Duplicate your desktop on the 2 20" monitors
Hint: Use the drop down arrows on the little monitors and select duplicate
9. Now simply run through the motions of creating your EYEFINITY display
Hint: Drop down arrow on big blue monitor, select Display Group/Create Group.

Here is how it looks.

Now as you can see, the 2 20" monitors are in front of the 24".
This is to reduce the boarder between the screens.
Just take care you dont damage your 24" screen.

Now this is not the best solution for Eyefinity, simply deminstrating that it is possible without loss of image quality. (Blur)
I will only use this for Gaming, and revert back to Extended or Single desktop.
Simply create a Profile (Preset) from within CCC2 and jump between as required.
