I am considering getting 3 monitors for eyefinity. Do I still need to get an active DP-> DVI adaptor for the 3rd monitor?
I remember reading that the 6900 series might support 4 monitors, and not need the active adaptor if using 3. Is that correct?

Thanks for clearing that up.

You can get unpowered single-link adaptors now for under £20, and my monitors wouldn't be over 1920x1200, so I'll get one of them.

I'm not talking about using a passive adaptor. Back when the 5000 serires first came out, active adaptors were expensive. Sapphire and Dell brought out cheaper ones, which were dual link and required USB power, so there were still expensive. Then they introduced single link active adaptors, which only support resolutions up to 1920x1200, but they are active.
Report from anandtech just before they were first introduced. Note that it is AMD who were publicising and promoting them, so they should work.
