EyeTV on Mac Mini

Hi,

Recently my DVD recorder has been acting up, making up it's own mind about what to record etc. I say recently, but it's been pretty poor since the day I got it.

One thing that looks good is the Elgato EyeTV250. Seems to fit the bill as I only have analogue TV. I was wondering if anyone had one and what it was like in terms of ease of use, picture quality etc.

I'd be using it with an Intel Mac Mini 1.83GHZ so I guess an external HD would also need to be considered.

One thing I'm not sure about is would the Mac be able to be used for other things whilst recording e.g would recording make the performance of everything else terribly slow?

Thanks for any advice anyone can give me.

Jim

The EyeTV software is very good. I'm using it with a Freecom DVB-T stick that I bought before I owned my Mac. No missed recordings yet, and as with most things Mac editing the recording and burning to DVD is dead easy. No noticeable performance hit when it's running in the background on my MBP 1.83.

Makes the Freecom XP software look like something a GCSE student knocked up in VB one lunchtime when it was wet outside and he had nothing better to do.

Can't comment on the EyeTV hardware but I can't imagine that it's duff. Might be worth getting a Freeview one if you can get a decent signal.

/Edit : Freeview recordings use about 2Gb per hour.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I might well be buying one in the very near future.

I don't know what the Freeview reception is like here in Ireland, normal TV e.g non-cable or satellite, is absolutely dire. Something to look into.

Thanks,
Jim
