Since Ive been using free weights, I set myself a goal of being able to do 3x8 40KG+bar on the curl bar. Reason being, it just looks plain cool having an olympic 20KG plate either side of your EZ curl bar ()

Ive really put the work in the past few months and have been doing 35KG for about 5 weeks (2.5KG+15KG-bar-15KG+2.5KG)

Yesterday, I thought screw it, Im going to try for 40KG. I surprised myself and managed to do my target 3x8. BUT...at the expense of some form. The last rep of each set (2 on the last set) I had to slightly swing my back a little bit to give me some momentum to get that bar up.

Think I should stick to my 40KG now and try to perfect it at the expense of some cheat reps?

I wont lie, I felt I'd accomplished something. I dont normally judge myself on what other's lift in comparison, but it really made me feel like all of the effort has been worth it.

On a separate note, whats the concensus on EZ bars? Ive heard a lot of bad comments about them saying they dont flex your biceps as much as a straight bar/dunbell.

Thanks Morba. The only isolations I do are the EZ curl, standing preachers and seated dunbell curls. Ive got a complex about wanting bigger biceps (though I think all red blooded males do!), Ive still got too much bodyfat so my definition is crap :(

Thanks gents. My triceps get a big workout during my chest days. Once Im done with compounds they get 3 isolation exercises too.

I might give the pyramiding a go actually, that might ease me in a bit better on good form :)

Thats the best thing Ive learned since my time at the gym, compounds rule
