Please help me answer the below

How many Euros could be bought for 20,000 Yen if the exchange rate is 1.62 Euros = £1.00 and 186 Yen = £1.00?

cheers

also second part to the question is:

If you are charged 2% commission on the transaction, how many Euros does this leave you with?

Ok so first you can work out what 20,000 yen is worth in GBP

So id 186 = £1, then divide 20,000 by 186 = £107.53

So then £107.53 time by 1.62 which is the euro exchange rate, = 174.2 euro's

Write that down :)

But i think you just divide 20,000 by 186 to get the amount of Yen to £'s, then multiply that figure by 1.62. I think, haven't down Maths for awhile :D

So for the second part divide the 174.2 euros by 100, then times by 98 to give you the 98% which is the total minus the 2% commision charge.

So thats = 170.72 euros

I love maths

so i was right initally as stated in my second post hahahahah

I did it a different way me thinks but I got it...wow I can still count lol

ok taking it a step further lol

how would I calculate profit percentage?

lets say something costs £10 to make and I sell it at £20...

so far I have been doing this:-

100 x 20/10 - 100 = 100%

how can I do that in a more easier way?

cheers :)

If you want to be a bit anal you could also point out that you'd never actually do this transaction via GBP - in reality it should be a EURUSD and USDJPY trade.....

If you wanted to be REALLY anal you could point out that it would be just as unlikely to do it EURUSD and USDJPY and get hit with 2 lots of commission and charges, and take some exchange risk if you are playing with big money when you could do EURJPY
