There's only a demo thread and a install issues thread so here it is, the official F.E.A.R 2 game discussion thread. We've all had a chance to get it installed and running so lest discuss.

Firstly i would like to say this game is awesome. Initially the letterbox really annoyed me, to the stage where i nearly went out and bought a 22" screen to resolve it but i found dropping the rez to 1280x900 reduced the size of them greatly. So far i haven't stopped playing it and have enjoyed every second, granted the combat is abit easy even on the hardest settings but the game isnt all about the clone soldiers etc, its about that thing you cant kill too, yep Alma. Compared to F.E.A.R 1 and condemned, i think the atmosphere in this is much improved, ok both of those were scarey but this has taken it to a new level. There hasn't been a singly point in the game where ive let my guard down and just mindlessly roamed about, ive been sneeking into every room and checking every corner.

*Spoiler below*

My first genuine scare is when you cross the building from the outside on the maintenance lift thing and crawl through the vent, you get into a room with a pool in it, only lit by a dim red light and a candle like torch. I carefully shimmied my way around, avoiding the water only to see a window smash next to me, i turned around and that bloody little girl was standing there looking at me. My mouse flew off the desk.

EDIT:

and ive just realised ive spelt THREAD wrong, woops, mod please fix the title.

Still dl my copy, i cant decide whether to play it when its done, or wait until its night time and play it with the lights off.

I hope it doesnt suffer with the stutter as the demo did, but im sure it wont.
My rig e6850, 4gb ram, 280gtx ocx on a 24" widescreen its gonna look quite nice:D

Still DL it at 900k.Cant wait to play this game.I hope my 4850 is good at full details at 1680 1050 as the stutter with the demo is very bad with my rig.

It's hard for me to compare this to the first on directly because its been such a long time since i played it but, from memory the second does feel/play/look so much better. The graphics at points are outstanding and I really cant remember being so disturbed to the stage where I'm considering turning it off.

Im running the game maxed out on a 280GTX and haven't even seen a single FPS decrease throughout. I get the impression this game will run very well on earlier GPU's also, so don't worry about that.

Enjoying the game so far but do agree with the reviews on diffuculty, its very easy (even on hard) & far too much health dotted around when you really dont need it.
Its a tad guilty of the console feel with its aukward movements & floaty feel. The guns fights are less intense & more predictable than i remember but then ive only played for 40 mins so . . .

Graphics are very nice indeed, especially the part were you are in a penthouse apartment with the pool/waterfall, it looks very impressive.

The HUD is rubbish but you get used to it.

Good game and very very polished (hated Stalker games for being buggy incomplete pieces of rubbish that were clearly not ready for release). I just find after playing games like Crysis, Fear 2 is too little too late to have any real impact on PC gamers for the long term.

Yeah. I reinstalled the first FEAR game recently and the demo of FEAR2 actually ran *better*. The joy of a nicely coded engine.

Just paid on Steam - waiting for my flatmate to get network sharing working so I can steal the files to save downloading them :D

Only gonna play this game in the dark with my headphones on ;)

From what I can gather the stutter is not performance related but rather some thing to do with the auto save. Your rig should be more than adequate to run at full details. In the demo I set the graphics the highest they would go and the framerate never dropped below 60 even though the pausing/freezing occured.

Anyone who had the stutter/pause issue is in the demo please let us know if it has been sorted out.

Yer, i can confirm that there are not performance related stutters in the game atall. Just the really annoying Autosave stutter, every 10 - 15 mins i would say.

Is there anyway we can reduce or stop that stuttering effect? Thought I'd read something weeks ago somewhere on here.

Left my lappy on overnight to download it from Steam - started at 12.30am and it finished about 7am I think. Whacked it on my rig this morning and had a right good time. Loving it so far.

Wish they'd fix the autosave stutter too.

Apparently, dont quote me on this, but i heard somewhere that renaming FEAR2.exe to something else really reduces the autosave stutter, not tried this because it doesnt bother me that much !

loving it! runs well on my machine too which is good (8800gts, q6600, 4gb ram)

tis the wrong time of day to be playing it imo but its still making me jump on the odd occasion lol

*edit finding the keys a bit awkward at times though as it wont let me use the additional buttons on my logitech g5

Loving it me now, im on interval 2. :D

I turned off the AA which seemed to reduce the stuttering for some reason.

have to agree about it seeming a bit to easy, you can take the buggers down with just a quick burst, its great though that arms and legs etc... still blow off, i blew i guy in half when he was jumping over a small wall, was well funny. :D
