F.E.A.R. Crashing because of audio

i have an Audigy 2 Platinum EX and when i launch fear it crashes instantly, if i disable the sound in the fear config panel, it loads perfect. any ideas?

ive tried updating to latest drivers and having the EAX disabled.

Have you got onboard sound you could try? Maybe try fully uninstalling software and drivers (using drivercleaner), taking out and reseating sound card and then reinstall with everything up-to-date?
