I have every thing on max on my PC now with the res set at 1280 by 1024 and I never notice any hiddous frame rate drops it runs realy smooth. It used to run realy nice on my 6800GS XXX to. I think considering the amout of sparks dust and paper flying all over the place when you let you guns rip and at the same time the game still runs smooth the game must have been extremely well made.

And look at my spec I may have a better GPU now but there's nothing special about my PC and the game runs like a dream.

Agreed. Runs sweet as a nut even in 1920x1200 here on this rig, and looked great in 1280x1024 back when I had my X800XL.
Very good engine bearing mind the amount of particles, high quality normal mapping and completely realtime lighting.

i just finished fear lastnight and i thought it was great one of the best games i have played:)
it played great on my rig, the only thing i think kills some system is soft shadows. il be geting fear extraction point asap

Easily pleased or you haven't played many games. FEAR loses its appeal after the first half an hour. The rest of the game is exactly the same.

Corridor --> Open Area --> Slow Mo --> Kill Enemies --> Pick up Ammo --> Corridor

It is basically that... then look you change buildings....

I finished the expansion pack a few days ago. I played it with a mix of medium and high settings, 2xAA but no soft shadows or AF, at 1680x1050 on an old XP2800+ with 1GB RAM and an AGP 7800GS. Had to drop it to 1440x900 after the first few levels because it started to stutter but it still looked great. It's just a shame it was so mind numbingly boring :(

I have a comparable system to yours, what settings are you using?

Agreed it is the same thing over and over again.

But you can never have too much of a good thing, its just so much fun blowing things up over and over again :)

no not at all, i enjoyed the combat and the storyline and thought the game had a great atmosphere.

It does have a good atmosphere, but that is not nearly enough to make up for its massive gameplay short-comings.

You should disable vsync during tests. Mine are 24/40/61. 1440x1050, everything maxxed out, 4x AA, 16X AF, maximum for everything else, soft shadows on.

I found that the RAM makes a huge difference in this game. With 1GB my gameplay was laggy whereas as soon as i put 2GB in it was as smooth as ever on full settings.

Agreed, it was like playing the same level over and over again and less scary than Doom3, in comparison to fear doom 3 was a good game.

I tried the demo of the expansion pack the other day, I completed the original game when it came out but I was surprised how dated the graphics were. Maybe the original was better looking (can't really remember TBH), but in the demo the textures seemed to be really bland and grey and boxy. After playing games like Prey, Splinter Cell 4 and *cough* Gears of War, it seems really basic :S
