F.E.A.R makes weird sounds (suspected PSU)

And i mean not thru speakers.
I have built a new PC for my friend and after installing F.E.A.R. i get this nasty electric hiss/buzz from somewhere around PSU. It only occurs in games menus and only in F.E.A.R. . The pitch of the hiss is changing when navigating menus.

To eliminate any possible sources of (normal) sound i have disconnected speaker system and headphones (pulled the plugs out of the back of a box).

So, what gives ?

The box is made of Asus P5K, quadcore q6600, Corsair 2GB XMS2-6400C4, BFG 800W, BFG GF-8800-GTX OC2.

Other games dont give any of this sort of problem. Farcry, HL2 (straight, ep1, ep2, portal), CSS, Crysis Demo and some other games tested - all of them work without hiss/buzz... Graphically speaking... No artefacts, no crashing, etc... Just the blasted FEAR menus.

I had the same problem with GF-7900-GTO and cheapey 550w PSU, cant remember details now, since it was sold like half a year ago with the rest of the old rig i had, so cant test. Same as above, only F.E.A.R. menus. But i know it wasnt an obvious problem, like drivers or some other noob stuff, because i did all the basic checks and tests. All other games worked properly.

I'd just live with it, but the guy i made the rig for is a pain in my hiney for being a "perfectionist" and bugging me for an answer.

Can anyone confirm any of this with fear ? 7900GTO or 8800GTX ? Two occurences of the same is not an indication that there must be a rational explanation for this and it can be repeated.

Will test FEAR out on my own 8800GTS, just for laffs to see what happens, havent tried that game since i bought my new rig couple of months back...

All parts bought from overclockers, btw.

I get that on Stalker and the Crysis demo, it's normal mate and it's not your PSU

Its the capacitors on your 8800GTX, they seem to suffer from squealing capacitors under load. You can RMA if you like, but as said, a lot of 8800's do have them and it doesn't mean your card is going to blow

Mine doesnt. Cant remember what PSU i have at the mo, but my 8800GTS 640 doesnt buzz and my psu doesnt beep upon shutdown...

#EDIT# Looking into 8800 squealing issue i start to realize that it MAY be psu thats actually squealing in this situation. Many people fixed squealing problems by replacing PSUs. The case is Antec900 and PSU is very close to videocard, so i just cant make out whats squealing. Will have to get my friends card into my personal machine and see if it squeals. If not - its RMA time for a PSU.

Plus, many people report worst squealing occuring during maxxed out fps scenes, like 2D menus, where fps shoots thru the roof due to GPU not having stuff to process. Go figure.

I had this problem with my Hiper PSU, RMA'd it, exchanged it for an enermax, and the problem went away. It was so, so annoying. Still unsure whether it was a fault in the PSU or GFX, all i know is its gone now.

I have to admit i have read everywhere about this problem and it being down to the 8800 cards, so it's a bit of a mystery to me.

I wonder is it possibla that PSU is playing sounds due to GPU drawing different amounts of juice at certain times ? Funny thing is that pitch of whine changes everytime i change menu level, just by navigating every screen of menu has its own sound........

Exactly the same as mine.....Seriously its not your PSU its your graphics card

Mine has done it with a Corsair PSU and an Enermax Liberty
