Basically i'm not getting any speech in game.

I'm using an X-Fi card and have:

a) Tried all updates of the game
b) Tried all updates of the soundcard (inc. BETA)

My sound settings in game are:

Hardware Mix: ON
EAX 2.0: ON
ADV EAX: ON
Speech: ON MAX!

My audio card config settings are:

CMSS 3-D: ENABLED
CRYSTALIZER: ENABLED
EQ: DISABLED
EAX Effects: ENABLED

What was weird is that i paused the game at one point and then as i came back in speech was heard briefly but out of sync and then it went to speech silence again. I mean CUMON, this is stupid. I have an X-Fi, so surely it's nothing to do with the EAX options. Anywho, i've messed with all the config and disabled everything above but alas it's still the same. Dammit Creative, why do you always fail to impress me!

Haha, well there is still no speech after i uninstall the Creative X-Fi driver and enable and use the on-board sound (nVidia Audio).

What a load of! :D

Now attempting to reinstall FEAR, again.

CRAP! Still nothing...

Video Clip of Problem

As you can see there is no speech, then i enter the menu and then there is brief speech and then nothing again. I then continue through game and there is no speech.

I've tried:

Tests with FEAR on all patches: 1.0, 1.3, 1.4
Disabling X-Fi card, Enabling onboard audio (nVidia)
Hardware and EAX OFF/ON/Mix of both

This is becoming a tad annoying.

Last ditch attempt and VOILA!

It was the Windows Media Audio codec. I prioritised it to be the first codec used but apparently that wasn't enough and two days later after tryin near enough everything else, all i had to do was uninstall/reinstall the thing.

What a carry on. :D

Thanks guys for keepin' me on my toes. :)

Time to play F.E.A.R! :p
