F@H Beta Client for Nvidia Comming Soon :-)

hmm - having real issues with the 177.35 drivers. What do i do with the INF file??

Run the driver file - it'll error but doesn't matter, you just need to get at the extracted files. Find the folder that the driver extracted into (usually C:\NVIDIA\177.35 or similar). Replace the nv4_disp.inf file in that folder with the modded one. Then the drivers should install normally if you click the setup.exe. Reboot and you're away.

VMWare installed, two Linux clients running happily alongside GPU. Awaiting results...

These WUs are quite big to upload. At this level of PPD, you're looking at 100MB/day upload for the GPU client.

hmmm - well appear to be up and running something is happening!

Temps haven't increased more that 3 degree from idle which is slightly worrying, becuase that probably means nothing is crunching - i still have both Win SMP clients running.

Will go and get my dinner and hopefully still have a pc when i return!!

thanks - eventually managed that but a couple of errors appeared at first

Right, things are coming along nicely. Yeggstry, your estimate was pretty much spot-on:

Hmmmmmm 4704PPD, what is your GFX card clocked at?
Mine is doing that ammount clocked at 680/2000, I have seen a few posts with people giving the same number, highly unlikely that they are performing exactly the same with various clocks.... what do you think?

My math was a bit squiffy this morning - I'm getting 1800ppd on a C2D system with an 8800GT with the non-modified drivers. Sounds like using the recommended drivers is really holding me back looking at some of those ppds.

I was under the impression the GPU client was CPU limited? I'm seriously considering banging a card in the old folding box - it can hoover up the CPU time left over by the SMP client.

Oh, and I got the Riva tuner software and stuck the fans on 50%. Keeping temps around 75C for the card for negligible increase in noise. They were hitting 90C on auto.

Excellent :) And you've probably still got more to eek out of the Quad :)

I would have posted a 6k PPD pic, but my machine crashed whilst showing Paint .Net :( I also made the mistake of not setting the GPU client up to use a higher priority than the SMP so its down quite a bit. Changed the priorities around and the PPD was up 700 points in 2 mintues.

650/1950.

I think it's because the steps are so short, and so everyone's card is giving about the same frame times because the logs only measure to an accuracy of one second? When one step takes 10mins, small differences in performance come out more clearly than with these 20-second steps. Mine occasionally jumps to 4950, presumably when it catches up enough time to make a step look 1sec shorter.

My passive cooling (Accelero) is holding up surprisingly well - 64c core temp.

I'm so glad I don't pay the electric bill for this.

Yeah so am i, it would be cool to get a solarpowered computer :P

got the same cooler and according to GPU-z and Nvidia Monitor i'm only hitting 48 degrees!:confused:

My idle temps are usually around 43/44:confused:

I wouldn't even like to speculate how much it would cost in solar panels to power a folding box. Too much to even bother getting an estimate. I wish it was possible.

Your passive cooling must be great. The airflow in my case isn't that good but I'm happy for the computer to run for extended periods at 75C. It won't be running 24/7 as it's more of a borg.

edit - during next power cut (becoming far too often in my neck of the woods) I'll swap out the wattmeter and see how much the 8800GT adds to the power consumption. I'm guessing it will add around 100w to total system draw - that's pretty good for an extra 4000+ ppd. For reference my Q6600 @ 3.0GHz draws 140w at full load and that produces approximately 3500ppd.

cool - it's an Antec 900 so plently of space and fans running

I've written up a quick guide for the GPU client guys, using the information based in here. Let me know what you think :)

I'm thinking about adding to SiriusB's site over the next few weeks so, with your permission, I may add your guide as well (or link to it, whatever you wish). Full credit of course.

Sure :) Its not all-singing all-dancing at the moment, just wanted to get all the information in one place - I was getting confused myself!
