The installation is fairly self explanatory. However, getting it to work with the SMP clients is another thing....

In order for the GPU client to get the CPU it needs, the priority should be higher than the CPU client(s). I used the process explorer to set the priority to low and for the CPU clients I set them to idle. That way the GPU client will get as much CPU usage as it needs. I did switch one of my 4 SMP clients off this morning just in case, but I think it would be fine with the 4th left on, it would just fold slower.

You can also set the priority in the GPU client, however I have found that to be less than useful (same with the VMWare priority setting - besides I prefer to handle them myself).
 
4700PPD with 8800GT :D

Does anyone else's GPU make a high-pitched whining noise when running this? I think it's the voltage regulators or something... I've turned it off for now as I don't want to burn my card out.
 
Yeh mine makes a whine..... not sure if its a good thing, hope its not damaging my card but I have no idea if it makes this noise in games anyway.
Something to look into I guess.

I assume that is overclocked and with the latest drivers, including the modified inf? Very impressive :)

There was a known issue with whining on the older versions of the 8800GT, if you have the small fans then it might be a problem (check the graphics card forum for more info).

This will now significantly reduce the cost of a decent folding machine :)

Vista x64, latest drivers with modded INF, eVga Superclocked GT running at stock (650Mhz core). Only OCs to about 700, so probably not much point!

This will now significantly reduce the cost of a decent folding machine :)

Nope, haven't done anything like that - just worked straight away.

The WinSMP client doesn't usually use 100% CPU. The GPU client needs practically no CPU to run, so I think the WinSMP is leaving it just about enough CPU time to run properly.

I find my win smp client uses 100% of all 4 cores. Il give it a go when i have these drivers downloaded, cheers

Erm... you're not going into the single cruncher's league are you? If so I may have to pull my socks up :(

Just checked, my OcUK 8800GT only clocks at 600 :/ will be interesting to see how much it will get me, if it yields a decent amount of points it is a worthy upgrade for a cheap folding box.

Dunno what I'm doing really... a bit concerned that this is gonna kill my PC if I leave it going 24/7! And it's getting amusingly hot in here. Maybe I'll just run the 8800GT - they're dead cheap nowadays - or maybe I'll run the GT along with just one Linux client under VMWare to give my CPU a bit of a break...

If someone set up an overclocked quad with the new GTX280 and ran two Linux clients with the GPU, I reckon 10kPPD would be easily achievable, probably 11 with the right WUs. For a cheap folding box, though, a £120 Q6600 and £110 8800GT gives a pretty amazing price/performance ratio.

(edit) Hmm, in theory... triple GTX280 SLI... and Nehalem isn't so far off...

I agree, I'm estimating that I should be able to get at least 8k with the following:

2 x 2 and 1 x 1 Linux SMP clients with Ubuntu under VMWare (approx 3.6k)
1 x GPU client with 177.35 drivers (approx 4 - 4.5k, not sure yet ;))

I wish I didn't have to wait until work has finished in an hour - I want to see how my machine has done today! I've set up my machine as above, but with older drivers, which was only giving about 2 - 2.5k.
