Hi there, been folding for about a week now, and have just got an error pop as per thread title.

Could anybody please let me know how to rectify this as all Fahmon is showing is that the ETA is *hung*.

Thanks very much.

Normal console client is a waste on an E6300. Get installing the SMP client! :p

As for your problem, I'm not sure. Never come across it before.

Cool, will give it a go, see if it rectifies itself.

From a previous thread saying that the SMP client expires in october, is that all sorted now?

Cheers for your help

Quick update on the situation.

I restarted my pc after stopping both instances of F@H and it appears to have solved the problem, though on FahMon, under the WU information it has the core saying N/A.

Also, the original client i downloaded was the non-GUI text only console, after looking further down the page there is a *New* Windows XP SMP client 5.91 Beta - should i use this one instead and if so, how would i go about changing the client over please.

Thanks very much for all your help so far.

Okay, first step is to stop and remove the current clients.

Ideally you should wait until the current work units are finished [as it could be days or weeks before they get sent out again.

Either way, once you have stopped the clients, you will need to re-run the config so you can get rid of the services. Find the folder you have the client installed, right-click on the FAH.exe file and create a shortcut [in the same folder]. Right-click on the shortcut and click properties.

In the new Window you will see a field that says "Target" and a path. AFTER the last quote mark add -configonly. Save the changes and then run the shortcut. This should put the FAH client into configuration only mode. Go through the options until you get to the one about the service. It should ask you if you want to remove/uninstall the service. Say yes. Finish the config [just keep pressing Enter]

Do the same with the other client.

Once done, nuke both folders completely.

Now go to http://smp.aeternum.co.uk/windows.xhtml and follow the instructions for installing the Windows SMP Client.

Lovely, thanks very much SiriusB.

By nuking i presume you mean deleting everything in those 2 folders (just me being a bit dense, lol).

Will have to wait till the weekend to sort it as the 2 WUs that are currently going have only really just started and have 2000000 and 4000000 steps respectively.

Once i have sorted it i shall let u know how i get on.

Cheers again, nice to know that my unused CPU power is being put to good use.

You're welcome. And yes, nuking does mean deleting :)

Glad you decided to keep the WUs you have.

If you like, you can follow the instructions for making the shortcut, but instead of adding -configonly add -oneunit instead. Then double-click the shortcut icons. You will have FAH running in a Window but it will finish the WU and not download another. Running in a window aint really a problem if you're nuking it in a day or two. Remember to stop the clients before running the modified shortcut.

[You can directly edit the service path, but its a bit more involved and pointless since you will be getting rid soon anyway].

Hi there again, quick update so far.

Have got the windows FAH working now, it says that it cant be run as a service, is this still the case?

Also, when i look at the processes tab there are 4 instances of the FahCore_a1 executable, is this just because the client is optomised for 4 quad core so has split my dual into four?

In FAHmon there is now only one WU showing (worth 1760 points), as opposed to 2 last time (assigned a WU to each core) is this normal?

Cheers very much for taking the time to read this, all help is very much appreciated.

winSMP always runs four threads, so that's normal. As winSMP is optimised to use all of the cores on a CPU, there will be only one WU running at a time, so that's fine too.

Looks like you're up and running to me.

Is your CPU maxed out with one client?

If not then you can run another alongside it.

From the looks of things i think it is, running 34% 18% 14% and 34% on the 4 threads.

Cheers for your help guys, lets get crunching!!
