Now I have been happily doing some folding for this great team but it does seem to take an emense amount of time to complete these units.

Maybe I have done something wrong but I seem to only be able to complete 1 maybe 2 units a day if I am lucky. Now is this normal?

I have an E6600 & 2GB RAM running two winSMP clients set up as per the main sticky but it seems that my early crunching of a couple of hours per WU is now usually a day at the minimum.

What sort of PPD should I be looking at or is it that I am getting pap projects with low PPD i seem to be getting a lot of the 3403/3404 projects (off top of my head)

so any pointers guys?

Looks like you are running two of the standard clients to me (not WinSMP) as projects 3403 and 3404 are standard (not SMP) projects.

If you do decide to use the SMP client you should just run one client.

A day or two per WU is perfectly normal. Some of my machines take 4 days for some WUs.

yes sorry am running two of the standard clients. Is it worth trying the SMP client?

Please bear in mind that the WinSMP client is really finnicky so if you don't like the idea of holding its hand all the time I would suggest two standard clients.

It is worth trying, however, as some people are lucky and don't have any problems.

I was contemplating the VMware Linux route to be honest as a possible solution as having never used linux it sounded like the perfect time to try it out.

How easy/ hard is it to install it. Also any good guides. Not checked the sticky properly but noticed a linux setup guide there.

Also is it better to run the 64bit version or standard 32bit

Download Ubuntu 7.04 64 bit and follow SiriusB's guide and you can't go wrong. You'll be crunching SMP Linux stylie in no time.:)

I started playing with Linux SMP a few days ago, getting 2500 PPD now on one M/C.:)

Edit: The guide is in the SMP thread.

Everything you need to know is in the guide, including links to Ubuntu 7.04.

Remember to follow the sections specifically for Feisty Fawn.

Yup and what a great guide it is :)

well I have followed Sirus's guide and it worked a treat. I have got it installed and up and running without a hitch.

:D

I have installed FAHmon using the first smp project running with a lovely 1760 points

Yeah, I had 3 2604's on the trot, that's 5280 points in less than 3 days, very nice.:)

Oh, and of course SiriusB's guide rocks!!:)
