Sad to say im having to stop folding for the time being.
My second 9800 gx2 has just went belly up leaving me basically just my 8800gt
The second 8800gt i bought from MM seems to be kaput as it installs but windows turns it off saying it has reported a problem.
Its taken me 2 days just to get windows back on to my system and ive lost 300gig worth of data in the process. Deleted the backup drive by accident in frustration trying to install windows.
if i can i might be able to get the cpu crunching again to at least keep some points coming.

Any help finding some CHEAP graphics cards that are good for folding would help.

When folding starts costing you money for no return, it is time to step back a little.

You have lost all your main GPUs and left with two low-end GPUs - one of which is not even working. You also nuked your data in the process of fixing things.

You are now looking to spend even more money to replace everything. I admire your dedication but maybe it's a sign to take it easy? :p

Our very own Stan has done the same. He is now steadily working his way back - taking his time :)

well ive got my cpu running again as well as the 8800gt but my output is going to take a major nose dive.

Will have to pester Leadtek to get them to hurry up and replace my 9800 GX2

Edit: i have also just added my 2 8800gts cards back into the system.

Biffa is right, as i've mentioned before, a gtx295 is the only card that is of equal or greater specification when it comes to CUDA based cruching. Tell them the card is used soley for CUDA operation.

Based on Gflops processing power - which may or may not equivalate accurately to folding power - it beats out even the GTX285, if only by a slither. The 295 then being >60% more power. You'd have a case for the 295, but I doubt they'll give you it :p
Press for at least the 285 though.

Based on my usage of the card you are correct but they then might turn round and say i killed the card through over working it (which i did :D) and that invalidaes the warranty.

I severly doubt they will go for replacing my 9800 GX2 for the top of the range GTX series but you never know here's hoping they dont have any of the GTX 275 or GTX 280 in stock and offer the GTX 295 instead.

They now at least know i am aware of the equivelent performance card to mine's and will not accept a downgrade. As thier warranty states

Leadtek Research Inc., at its sole discretion, shall repair or replace the defective product covered by this warranty. In the event a returned product is no longer available, Leadtek reserves the right to substitute with another product of similar or greater functionality

********. They can't sell a card with a warranty that's invalid if you use the thing. Half the people (OK, exaggeration) that bought those cards did it for some form of CUDA usage, commonly Photoshop (and similar) uses - and that can be pretty full time, especially if that sort of thing's your career. The only thing they could pick you up on is if you overclocked it, if they can tell.

i clocked the nads of it
had it running 720 core, shaders 1800 and memory 1150 and that was 24/7
most time temps was at 100 - 104

But they have no way of knowing that unless you told them or admitted it in a public forum... DOH!

they dont have any of my usernames and i used my secondary email account for the rma
which is not connected to my username in any way on any forum

But i still dont think they will offer me a GTX295 even one of the older dual pcb version's
