swapped out an ATi card for nvidia card in one of my rigs, unistalled ATi drivers, took out card, fitted new card, installed nvidia drivers, so far so good...

have unistalled and reinstalled F@H and get the following error in the log

[14:47:26] Entering M.D.
[14:47:34] CoreStatus = FFFFFFF6 (-10)
[14:47:34] Client-core communications error: ERROR 0xfffffff6
[14:47:34] This is a sign of more serious problems, shutting down.

and the following on screen pop up.

"Folding at home has run into a serious error running the core and will shutdown"

any ideas?

Swapping sides is often a little problematic. Did you run driver cleaner or whatever the current tool of choice is to completely get rid of anything ATI?

As for the nVidia drivers, did you use the right ones? Some versions work, many don't.

latest nvidia drivers off their website. didnt run driver cleaner. can i run that after the event now?

Yup - uninstall the nVidia drivers, clean, reinstall (but make sure you install a compatible set - which may not be the latest). I don't do GPU folding so can't direct you to a specific driver version.

You're not trying to fold an ATi WU, are you? Reinstalling the client might not have been enough to delete the data files.

Nope - uninstalling the folding@home client doesn't delete work files. You'll have to remove them yourself (removing the work subdirectory, queue.dat, and all the FahCore binaries should do it, but if in doubt uninstall and nuke everything).
