We have opened up the beta testing for the SMP client. More information can be found here:

http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-SMP.html

note that this client is only for OSX/Intel and Linux/x86_64 (64bit linux). We are working on other clients (32 bit x86 linux and windows).

The clients are now available on our download page. Please read the FAQ carefully before running the client.

that's got to be good news in terms of progress made so far :)

can I be stupid and ask what SMP is?
I'm sure Google will tell you what the letters stand for, but basically it means that a 2-way or 4-way machine will use all the CPUs/cores available to work on the same WU thus enabling work to be done 2-4 times as fast or allowing longer WUs to be processed in the same time as current length WUs

Any ideas if this will run on a P43.0E (HT), and what the performance benefit might be like?

Thanks, null :)
It should work, as long as you have linux installed of course.
It will certainly use all of the CPU and will return work faster than running two seperate clients so will be better for the science at least.

If you don't have linux then probably not worth the messing around unless you really fancy having a go :p

Currently the client will run 4 instances automatically, these will use whatever cores/logical cpus are available up to a maximum of 4 and also seem to work fine with only 2 cores
