Is there a way we can keep / use / find WU's that we can use for testing / benchmarking system configuraitons and such.

I want to evaluate different combinations of CPU's MB'S, RAM etc against Easy / Moderate / Difficult work units in hopes of optimizing ppd.

You could grab a timeless WU and make a bunch of copies of it. Using actual WUs is though becasue each WU is generational so you can never be sure you'll get similar results even across the same project.

Similarly there is a Gromacs-based CPU burn-in tool.

/goes to find the tool's name

EDIT: It's called Stress CPU and is found on the em-dc site (the same host as EMIII).

you could always just back up your folding directory part-way through a WU and then use that on as many machines as you wanted - after all there's no real need to complete the whole WU again on each benchmark machine as just doing the same few frames would give just as good a result

as long as you let the WU complete on the original machine then i don't see any harm in it
