Hi,
I've just gotten a E71 (great phone). I'm wondering if it's worth it to install the free F-Secure utility. How badly does it effect performance of something like an E71? Is the performance hit only during browsing?

Via the towers I do very little browsing to only a handful of safe sites. My main reason for security would be when I surf via a public WiFi.

Finally does F-Secure UN-install 100% cleanly (via App Manager) in case I don't like it?

Thanks

you wont need to install any antivirus software at all cos unless you're stupid and randomly install .sis files which you don't know what they do you'll never get a virus. Surfing the net wont attract them to you and if you're concerned about pc viruses don't be cos they're two different platforms. Its just a waste of your phones resources. I forget if the e71 is an s60v2 or s60v3. The s60v3 cant get viruses but like i said unless you're accepting and installing software you'll never get one on any other s60

Oh ok thanks. Wasn't sure what the intrusion possibilities might be with it (especially on wlan). This is my first phone that's actually usable as a browser.

I checked it's S60 3.1 Edition, Eseries, Symbian Os 9.2

So v3 is especially well fortified? Sounds good.

Cheers

yeah I've had 5 s60 phones and I've only had a virus on one cos I put it there :D so long as you have a trusted site to get software from then you'll have no problems at all.

A months trial of F-Secure came on my n73 a few years back, pretty good stuff. Never found anything though, you may be a 'more active' mobile web user than me though.

Thanks for all the info. I prefer not to have extras like that on the phone, especially resource hogs. And I know not to accept/install mysterious sis files and the like. I also will only get apps from the official sites.

I'm loving this phone. Nokia knocked out a nice one with the E71
