Hi all,

I have a spare sky F@ST2504n and wondered if it was possible to turn it into a wireless repeater (for another F@ST2504n). I have a feeling I've read how to do this before (custom software?) but for the life of me can't find it now.

Is it possible? Step-by-step guide :D? Or point me in the right direction?

Thank you!

Repeater or Access point?

AP is easy, just configure it on the same SSID/Wireless Enryption/Encryption Key and on a different channel. Disable DHCP, NAT, Firewall and any other services like UPnP etc. Give it an address in the same network subnet. If your current router is 192.168.0.254 you could use 192.168.0.253 for example. As long as it is outside of the DHCP range of your main router and not conflicting with any other static addresses it wont matter what you use.

Repeater requires specific functionality, if it's not built into the stock firmware then you need a custom image. DD-WRT will do many forms of wireless repeating but unless it supports your device you cannot use it.

Setting it up as an additional AP should suit you just fine though and your clients will roam automatically between the Router and 'AP' when the SSID/Encryption is the same, will just use whichever is providing the strongest signal.
