F1 2010 - 4th Dev interview, design and mechanics

Hmm seems like a lot of talk for something that may look good but not play good.
I love how he mentions the below like it has never been done 50 times before.

Redesigned the way that we're trying to think about F1 Games.
Adding intricasies of F1 like;

Practice
Qualifying
Official Cars
Official Drivers
Official Tracks
PR TIME! "Absolutely Authentic"

Then he goes on to explain options of difficulty like no racing game has ever done it before, about weather (which sounds pretty good actually) but states the obvious that wet surface = less friction!.

To be honest, I'm finding a lot of Codemasters games to have very good advertising for the masses, hype it and end up being something of a let down.
Personally in it for simulation and I haven't found anything better than rfactor really.

Geoff Crammond did physics based weather effects on his F1 games a decade ago :D

This isn't really related to the Dev Diaries, so not really 4th :D

Good interview though, everyone interested in the game is sitting around hoping the physics is actually going to be decent ;)

Yep, spot on.

Codies really have no shame these days....all hype and no substance, nothing innovative at all. But I'm sure the masses will get sucked into it as we saw with OPF2. I really wish Mr Ecclestone had given the liscense to someone else like Simbin or ISI.

Will be waiting on rFactor 2 personally and yeah the current rFactor still does it for me as well.

It's made for consoles, therefore it's going to be accessible, there is no place for a hardcore simulation on consoles.

Yes it's going to be a standard console racer ported to PC. Hence, why I find it funny how they preach all this 'amazing realism and innovation'.

F1 is a world renounced iconic sport, there is no way it'll cover all bases but they have to thyink about immersion and accessibility otherwise It'll be just like a mod for the Dirt 2 engine with no substance.

They have mentioned a few times "not this time". This license will span multiple years and will take some developing. If they get the ground work right now, 2011 improvements could fill the void. It's a franchise, not a one off so they have to make compromise to fit in with the fast paced and ever changing F1 whilst keeping in time with the current season.

There's potential for a good development of the platform over the next couple of years and they certainly seem to be going in the right direction. There will always be compromise but as long as its enjoyable I'm all for it.

Truly adaptive weather system isn't new and more realistic than anything that has come before it?

Off line dust and marbles, on line rubber build up. none of that new to a racing game?

Yes, it has a lot of gimmicky crap, the paddock is pretty much the dirt 2 menu, press is something you can ignore.

Anthony seems to be giving a lot of feedback about the handling, he's driven for BAR,Super Aguri and Brawn (as a test driver). He knows how an F1 car handles more than any of you
