So I'm now 30 mins into just trying to play this game...

I'm fed up for hearing the intro track, trying to login into a Window Live account I don't want, trying to create some Windows Gamers account I don't want, trying to register a game against a Windows Games account I don't wont.

I'm about to give up...

Can any explain what Codemasters in their infinite (we only program for consoles) wisdom actually want me to do to play their game?

ps: I'm also fed up of following links in the games to Windows Live which open a browser with invalid pages!

FINALLY DONE IT! Codemasters need to be shot for this unecessarily painful system!

surely once you've registered once you dont need to go through the same process over and over again? Its like my Xbox live, register my account and when I switch on my Xbox it launches all of my profile and online service. Simple

I don't have an XBox, so it's confusing when I have to create XBox Live accounts?!! It's even more confusing when it says I have to do X, Y or Z, and gives me a link to click to open a browser... to invalid web pages....

Very much Drama queen, you put in a username and password and you're ready to go, hardly the end of the world is it? It's not an Xbox live account, it's just a Microsoft account, surely you have one from somewhere, everyone has an old hotmail/live mail account?

Not at all... Here's an example run down...

- Start the game... Watch the the 10 seconds of intro videos... Get background music.... Ask for a Window Live account.
- Take option to create Live Account.
- Update loaded... Couple of minutes...
- Says needs to restart game to take effect.
- NO OPTION to restart/exit game... So out comes Task Manager.
- Start the game... Watch the the 10 seconds of intro videos... Get background music.... Ask for a Window Live account. Enter Live account...
- Update loaded... Couple of minutes...
- Says needs to restart game to take effect.
- NO OPTION to restart/exit game... So out comes Task Manager.

- Start the game... Watch the the 10 seconds of intro videos... Get background music.... Ask for a Window Live account. Enter Live account...
- Says games needs a Gamer Live Microsoft something or else I've never heard of account? Offers link. So take link...
- Browser opens to invalid/non-existant page.
- Browse internet trying to work out what to do.
- Restart game again in an attempt to see if more help is in there...
So take link again...
- Browser opens to invalid/non-existant page.
- Faff around for several minutes wonder why all the references to XBox, when I DO NOT EVEN OWN an XBox.
- Finally by doing lots of random things...
- Start the game... Watch the the 10 seconds of intro videos... Get background music.... Ask for a Window Live account. Enter Live account...
- Asks for game key... Enter game key...
- Play game...

No one else thinks spending 20-30 minutes on the above it poor design? Including links to create XBox accounts which don't even work (invalid URLs)?

I must be fussy then...

Cry baby. Just create an account and get over yourself.

Also 20-30 minutes? lol takes 5-10 at most! If you've got learning difficulties then I'm sorry for being blunt.

Seriously... It was terrible. Unintuitive and unfriendly. Offering links to broken URLs to sites suggesting you're creating a console related account? It took me 20-30 minutes of faffing around.

ps: Enough of the childish insults... Grow up! I'm guessing you're a spotty little teenager with that attitude...

I've already got a windows live account from playing GTAIV earlier in the year. I just bought batman arkham asylum and it took me at least 15 minutes faffing around to get it to work. VERY frustrating...

Watch out, Valentino will declare you are 'special needs'

I created a GFWL account when I installed GTA4, and I've never had to touch it since. Every time I play a game that uses it it pops up that I am signed in offline, and causes no problems.

I'm not even sure if I created one (Game For Windows Live?) or not in my debacle! Once it started telling me to do things at URLs that didn't even exist, and to exit a game without an exit option, it all got rather messy! :)

Here's how I do it.

Start up F1 2010 for the first time, put in username and password, enter CD-key, fine. GFWL then retreats and lets me load the game.

Not my experience I'm afraid... Repeated downloads from Microsoft... Repeated requests to restart game... Repeated links to create accounts at non-existant URLs, at sites talking about XBox's?

Glad your installation went so smoothly, but mine was a mess!

ps: When it's asking for the Microsoft logon, there was seemingly no way to exit the game (even though it was asking you to do this), other than to go through loads of menus and intro videos. Logic would suggest ESC would bring up a menu of options, including "exit game"... Nope...

Welcome to OCUK forums.

Scary thing is, a lot of these people are actually able to vote

It's bizarre isn't it... People have the choice:-
- See if there's infact any merit or valid points in a post?
- Ignore a post?
- Act like a troll and just needlessly insult folks for no reason at all?

Seems some individuals are incapable of the first two a lot of the time

"If you've got learning difficulties then I'm sorry" - I mean, what on earth brings that sort of comment out of someone for no reason at all? What a numpty!

I know.

From a psychological standpoint, its quite fascinating, but I realised a while back not to even acknowledge their existence. Not worth the trouble. Let them wallow in their own self pity/hatred. Because that is exactly what they are doing. You think they talk to people like that in real life? No, they are cowards. Which just makes them even more pathetic.
Final comment (off topic) on this... I think it's the anonymity of it that lets some people behave in such an anti-social (childish) way. Behave in a way they'd never behave in if they were actually face to face with the person they were replying to. If every one lost this anonymity, the internet would be a far more friendly place I'm certain! And it's part of the reason I use my real name instead of 'hiding'...

One thing I have noticed about F1 2010, is my system seems to run at full frame rate even on Ultra?!

OK! Another example at the poor design of this game...

On loading tonight a GFWL update came through...

Trying to play a time trial I got a message that I wasn't connected to GFWL, and was basically stuck in a loop. Would ESC take me out of the option and return to the previous menu? No...

Gave up and returned to windows to find a GFWL update sitting waiting for me to continue... Which was of course hidden by the game while it was active!

It's a mess!

If you'd read the update message, it tells you to exit the game to complete install.

It's not ****ing rocket science.

Ummm... If you're taking that silly attitude... If the game really needed to restart, why didn't it restart? It's not ****ing rocket science! Or maybe offer an option to exit there and then (via ESC), rather than having to enter all the way into the game... to only then exit...

The problem seems to be two bit of software (F1 201 and GFWL) sown togethor, not very well... Sitting behind a poorly designed menu...

It takes literally 2 minutes, hardly worth getting annoyed about is it?

But it's not neccessary... As if the silly installation issues didn't annoy me enough, seems I can now enter into a game, which then downloads an update, and then lets me navigate around its menu to start up a game, only to then find out, I need to restart... Which it knew from the very beginning?

Here's a crazy thought... If an update downloads that needs the game to restart... Restart the game there and then! Don't let the user waste time, travelling around a menu system, only to get into a loop because the game hasn't restarted...

Maybe it's because I write software for a living these things annoy me. But to be frank it's pretty poor design (or integration)...

Arrrg. Similar pain. It said it needed an update and repeatedly said that every time I started.

'Key' was to logon to my "account" on xbox.com, not gfw site (wtf?) and accept new t&cs.

Careful! Our good friend Valentino will cast aspersions on your intelligence levels :)
