I have a problem. I've noticed that in qualifying the AI are extremely slow but set normal laptimes.

For example, I will be on a hotlap, and there will be a car right behind me catching up really quickly, it will then do something stupid to ruin my lap and get ahead of me. Once its ahead of me it just slows down and you can easily overtake it but the whole process starts again.

This is on all tracks

Any ideas? Is this normal?

It's not a bug, it's part of the design system.

The game uses so much memory that it needs to unload parts of the track to be able to maintain it's framerate. So if the player is on turn 1 then turn 10 or anywhere else the player can not see, will not be loaded.

This causes the problem of ai not being able to set a lap time due to the track physically not being there. So they create fake times for the ai and let them cruise around the track, so that when the player does see them they're hopefully under the illusion that the ai are actually setting times.

This is also the reason why you can not switch between cars in replay mode.

There is no fix.

I see. It's a shame because it totally messes up your quali most of the time. Weird that we don't see the same issue in the race?

That's because the AI are in race mode. In quali AI are put into an outlap/inlap mode so that the chances of holding up the player is reduced. If the AI are slow rather than a competing pace, there is less chance that they will hold the player up.
