Nice article and graph at F1 Fanatic showing the performance gap between the teams during the season so far.

The gap at the mid-front is closing up quick! Usually opens up during the season.

Proof if it were needed that McLaren completely squandered the car advantage they had at the start of the season.

So maybe Gary Anderson was right about McLaren will lack development due to the non-stepped nose, but he was mocked on here after Australia :)

Good now people can scrap this nonsense belief that McLaren develop their car faster than anyone else. They don't. It only looked like they did back in 2009 because they were so far off the pace to begin with.

Yep. Ferrari have done the same this year.

Its much easier to make a bad car good than it is to make a good car even better.

Except if you are Marussia or Toro Rosso. HRT and Caterham have been far quicker than them developing.

That's what I've never understood. The teams at the back of the grid aren't suffering from diminished returns anywhere near as much as those at the front of the grid.

They should be able to find huge chunks of time relatively easily.

Some of them still don't even have KERS. It must be available as an off the shelf package now and it's worth at least .03 seconds a lap often even more.

Yep HRT and Marussia both don't have it still. It should have been a pre-requisite to joining the grid.

There isn't an off the shelf KERS for the Cosworth engine, and neither team has the resources to develop their own.

Caterham only have Red Bull's KERS system because Fernandes pretty much wrote a blank cheque, and Bernie leant on RBR to provide them with one.

Williams is the only team with KERS that they've made themselves. Everyone else buys in systems from the likes of Bosch

At prices HRT and Marussia can't afford. Not that I think there is even one available for the Cosworth engine.

The FIA chose the wrong teams, its as simple as that.

No they don't the Mercedes system is developed in part by Zytec. Ferrari use MTS, Renault/Lotus I believe use Magneti Marelli

Williams are the only team to manufacturer their own system.

Is the KERS the Williams team use in the F1 cars their own? I thought that the Williams Hybrid Technology KERS systems were the Flywheel ones used in Sportscar racing. The KERS in the F1 car is a battery one. Are they not using the Renault one as used by Lotus?
