Morning all, finally got this game working and I am loving it.

However, I have the difficulty set to professional (AI), which when racing, is a smidgen too hard for me, using controller. Still getting to grips with the tracks. I would have come in at 15th on my first race (out of 22) however, I ran out of fuel on the last lap 3 bends from the finish... Annoying. Must not use rich mixture until the end lol.

So, aside from that little **** up, I can hold my own in races on the above difficulty. But, when it comes to qualifying, I'm dead last, every time. They do such amazing times it's insane. Should I notch down difficulty and get reasonable grid spots in sacrifice of it being easier when racing?

I have to admit I struggle to get the difficulty balance just right on F1 games - by their very definition they are designed to punish you for just one minor mistake!

I'd tinker with the driving aids as opposed to the AI level to be honest so in essence it's making it harder/easier for you rather than upping the level of the other drivers!

I find myself blowing the qualifying away and then struggling in-race more than the other way around!

You think that's difficult? :p We had a team which entered endurance races using the GTP mod for Nascar Racing 2003 (the proper one, not EA's abolition).

Full damage settings, full reliability issues, driver changes, no driver aids, pit-car-pit radio, races including the Le Mans 24 hours (which actually lasted 24 hours). In our first Le Mans you'd practice for the month leading up to it in order to be as prepared as you possibly could... pulling away for the warm-up lap one of our Dutch rivals engine expired... they didn't even complete a racing lap! Super harsh. Good times.

I think it's because I simply out brake a bunch of drivers in the first couple of corners.

Maybe I will turn off ABS which is one of the only assists I have. TCS is medium

With the F1 games I find you just need to go easy for the first lap or so if you want any competition as the AI will drive very safely if not everyone would QQ about AI taking you out etc.

If its on the harder difficulty then the best advice is try to learn the track so you can produce a very good 1 lap result. Also the expected result of you adapts somewhat to what you achieved in the last race. For the first season in one of the lame teams you would be expected to be around 16-20th I would have thought. The back of the field cars have far less grip and straight line speed this is something that also improves as you get upgrades from completing test events.

I have been thinking about a wheel but sadly I mostly play it sat on the sofa viewing on a 50" plasma. I could move to my desk but don't think I would enjoy it as much.

Are you messing with the car set ups at all? The basic quick settings are ok but there is a lot of time to be gained with setting up the car how you like it.

Learning the tracks are also very important and only other advice is go slow into corners then fast out.

I can hold my own online and play on legendary with a 360 controller. Tried a steering wheel on f1 2012 and was slower and because I don't play much I went back to the game pad as I didn't enjoy it with a steering wheel.

You could even try recording a lap and upload it, we might be able to see something obvious that could gain you some time.

Oh and turn Traction control off, it just slows you down. Abs is good but makes it harder to catch a slide I play with it off as losing a little in the braking areas isn't as bad as spinning off.

F1 games are completely fine on 360 controller don't worry about needing a wheel. I used to do fine against legendary with the 360 pad on most tracks.

I found a pad on the F1 games hard, simply because I was fighting the controller to make the car do what I wanted. With a wheel, i'm as quick as the top 3-4 on legendary, and to get to the front is a nice challenge.

Think yourself lucky, F1 2013 hard locked my computer everytime i tried to load it up :( had to pull the plug out and the lot
