F1 2013 Testing: Week 1 Jerez

llololol

"Lewis Hamilton locked his brakes going into the hairpin and went across the gravel trap and into the tyre barrier. The car has front wing and front suspension damage."

They only have 1 car. Teams wont have a second chassis built until they are confident the first one is working fine. If they have more than 1 front wing they might be ok, but given that the wings are a development part much more so than other things (like suspension, as Marussia clearly had enough spare parts to rebuild Chiltons suspension) I doubt they have more than 1 even built, let alone at the track. When we saw development wings from Ferrari and Red Bull over the last few years at races they only had a single item.

If they have a spare at the track, then fine. If theres one at the factory then I expect its being loaded into a van as we speak. If there isn't one built, then Merc may as well pack up and go home.

Not only bins it he also gets trolled by one of the marshalls afterwards.

Stuff like this makes me wonder why they don't test at places like Paul Ricard? Or at least somewhere with tarmac runoffs rather than gravel.

Better, more predictable weather in Spain?

Locking the brakes usually points to driver error doesn't it.

Usually yes, but this is testing. Could have been anything. You seem pretty intent on blaming Hamilton though for some reason without knowing much.

True. There are other places though.

Jerez doesn't meet the safety requirements for F1 racing due to the gravel traps and proximity of the barriers. Just seems a bit odd that for the first test, where the cars are most likely to fail, they go to a track with plenty of things to hit.

It was his first flying lap, so presumably the fist time he has ever put full force through a braking system he has never driven before, possibly running completely different compounds than he ran at McLaren. It was likely just a mistake due to inexperience, but unfortunate due to happening where there was a barrier to hit. Hopefully Mercedes will give some details. Perhaps they could release the statement on Twitter, one word at a time every time someone tweets #YUNoStop?

He doesn't like Hamilton.

At least he managed 4 more laps than Nico :)

Edit: Christ, Andrew Benson has a horrible additiction to Hamilton. He's managed to get a fresh article up about it on the BBC website in record time...

He'd just set a quick time so not his first flying lap. I admit that a lock up probably points to driver error, I just wouldn't be so blatantly sure of it with it being testing, and taking pleasure out of it. Could equally of been something like a KERS harvesting quirk so he got a different amount of braking to the previous lap?

(although - in fairness - if Vettel had binned his RB in the same manner I'd probably be rolling on the floor right now ;))

He's a knob. According to him and the BBC, Rosberg doesn't exist as it was Hamilton alone who unveiled "his" Mercedes the other day.

That's normally an 'Are you ok?' gesture by marshalls who don't necessarily speak the same language as the driver.

It's not a sarcastic 'well done, mate'.

ahah can't believe you thought I was being serious :D

As if he's going to sarcastically mock him having crashed the car lol.

As for Hamilton I don't dislike him. I hope he does well for himself the rest of his career, as long as he's not beating Jenson :)
