F1 2013 Testing: Week 2 Barcelona

Arknor, the difference this year though, is that they have a top line driver piloting their car. This is something which they didnt have last year.

[I questioned within the first few races of MSc's return that he is no longer capable of winning. People jumped down my throat for this comment. 3 years, 0 wins and being beaten by his team-mate every year in the WDC, I was proved right.]

One thing which Merc staff keep saying is that they aren't going for the title this year. The 2014 WDC is what they seem to be pinning their hopes on, so I wouldn't expect great things from them in 2013. Maybe 1-2 wins, if they are lucky?

Of course, when the season starts, anything can happen. And now that Hamilton is out of McLaren, with a new challenge, we may see some heroics this year.

Personally, I feel that (like MSC, Alonso and Vettel), Hamilton NEEDS the entire team based around him. He needs to be made to feel special. The darling of the team. Under these circumstances, he delivers his best performance. Will he get this backing at Merc - I'm not sure. A German team, with a German driver (Rosberg)...why would they back Hamilton over Rosberg?

two top drivers when rosberg thrashes or at least matches hamilton and shows that it wasn't schumacher it was the **** car.
then you can change from your usual schumacher bashing

but hey you probably believe if it was hamilton in that car for the last 3 years he would have achieved something he couldn't at mclaren and get another WDC or multiple wins from a car that fluked out with the tyres in china

yea brah im sure hamilton would have brought 2+ seconds to the team last season and would have been completive....

I don't see any reason to believe that. In any case, let's not forget that Hamilton and Rosberg are good friends that should help both of them.

Hamilton doesn't need the whole team focused around him, but he does need his team around him. When he joined McLaren he was managed by dad and was working under Ron who had nurtured his career from a little boy. His brother was at every race and he had his engineers.

That McLaren is gone. Ron is gone. Daddy is gone. His brother has his own career, and Button is sharing his engineers and then beating him on track. The McLaren team that Hamilton left is very different to the one he joined. I imagine he could have felt like a stranger in his own team. Couple that with McLaren refusing to budge on the media commitments and sponsorships forcing Lewis to do things he hates and you can see why a fresh start somewhere else looked tempting.

But he has to make that start. He cannot afford to just float around in the team while it floats around in the midfield for another 3 seasons. He needs to grab them by the scruff of the neck ans drag them forward. Demand progress, then support it as it happens. He needs to look at how Alonso was at the start of last year. Finding the positives and staying realistic in order to drive the team forward rather than dwell on the failings. If he can do that, and they can deliver him a good car, then there is no reason why he can't do what Schumacher did at Ferrari or Vettel at Red Bull and dominate.

It's a challenge, and I hope he rises to it. If he just complains for 2 or 3 years and then jumps ship he will loose a lot of respect from everyone.

Schumacher was a PR exercise. Don't get me wrong, he was still a good driver but the F1 regime had moved on too far for him to adjust.

Exactly - Merc made a killing in car sales when MSc came back (I understand Merc have always sold vast % of their cars every year inside Germany) so it was probably worth it for them

The challange for LH is to try and immediately beat Rosberg in a car LH is relatively unfamiliar with, in a German team /German engine, with a German =1 driver (at the moment Rosberg cant be considered anything else).

Lewis and Brawn have already said it will be 4-5 months into the season before Lewis gets the changes he needs.

And at the top gear show there was only one PR lady with lewis and it's the same lady he had at Mclaren.

EDIT= autosport are slow with the lap time updates.

Did they? any source for that?

Thats certainly what I read on here, and heard on commentary during MSc's 1st year back

.

Already making excuses :D

Seriously though - so what? JB won in Aus in 2010 (admittedly that was the 2nd race that season but even so)

LH needs to get some really positive results before "his" changes take place, and try and beat Rosberg in the latter's own car

"Hamilton, on hards, then comes round in a 1m22.882s, closing to within seven tenths of Vettel"

Go Lewis Go :) .......Poor Kimi only done 4 laps :(

Mercedes trying out periscope exhausts this morning.

I'd just copy RBR tbh :p

Although having a go is a good thing. So long as you know when to give up when it's ****!!

Am I the only one thinking that Merc doing something different to everyone else can only be a bad move?

You mean like Brawn did in 2009? every team goes their own way.

If Lewis was at Mclaren this year lots of people would be looking at the track times today and having a go at him\team.

Also just spotted this in the Autosport feed

"The FIA has told Williams and Caterham what it thinks - that the vanes [in the exhaust outlets] are illegal. "

I expect that will be enough for them to not race then in Australia.
