F1 2013 Testing: Week 3 Barcelona

I watched the first 30mins in 3D and tbh I couldn't see a great deal of difference (on the track). I'm now watching it in HD and will watch the next 3 days' testing in HD.

Not every camera there was 3d. The trackside ones and some of the ones in the pitlane were 3d, but Ted's camera wasn't for instance. But when they were on track the 3d effect was quite subtle, which is the way it should be imo. We don't need things coming out of the screen at every point.

3D was interesting, definitely subtle when focusing on 1 car, but (for example) when looking at 2 cars along a straight where there is a decent gap, or during a pitstop looking through the mechanics, the perception of depth and distance was good.

From the timing site it once again looks like Hamilton was doing a longer run with his fastest time, 10 laps or so, while Webber was going for speed, did a single lap run with second fastest lap of the day, pitted, came back out and did 4 laps with the fastest time and 3 slow to ultra slow laps.

Its fairly easy for the fastest guys to do 4 laps but have more fuel onboard, so very hard to know, but a lot if not all of Merc's fastest times and fastest pace over stints have been on comparitively pretty high laps, earlier in the day Hamilton fastest in the wet but also on a longer stint, same last week, same later in the day today in the dry. I'm leaning towards that being impressive if the other teams aren't holding back that much.

But that is where Merc needed to improve so badly, race pace, not their 2 lap pace(obviously needed improving but not as much). Of course in hotter weather the car might still chew tyres up badly, Merc has had that issue for the best part of 3 years, Rossberg and Schumi both looking decent in actual pace on the track but tyres dropping way faster than everyone else.

Merc definitely look to have a nice base package, but as mentioned i will hold judgement till we see it on a proper hot track, but i know its extremely difficult to look into testing times but i feel its looking promising for them, i by no means believe they will be title contenders but its definitely not looking like a disaster of a car, and i think lewis is secretly quite relieved at what he has to work with.
i wouldnt be suprised to see the merc on the podium this season.

i'm getting excited now, not that long to go to round one!!!:D

Testings being replayed on SSF1HD now. The track looks very different without its race day makeup on. No advertising and things.

Also, ewwww at the Caterham. That green is ming.

raning again this morning?

yep, but forecast good for the weekend

Gary Anderson is, for the first time that I can see, stating that the Mercedes actually looks like a decent package...

"Further to Andrew's point, Hamilton's 1:26.835 is a real lap as every sector time is faster so the performance is in the Mercedes somewhere. Which makes one wonder why the average time is three seconds slower than that? All I can suggest is that they are turning down the wick a bit just to hide the possible performance. It's a bit of a waste of time - the other teams will notice - but they might think it is worth it."
