Hi

Me and some mates are going to do Silverstone this year ... My only problem is i don’t know what tickets are best to buy so need a little help. I’ve managed to convince my mates that spending £150 on the barry basic ones isn’t a good idea and that ideally we need to be in some kind of grandstand. Am i right in thinking this ?

Woodcote A / Club / Becketts are in covered grandstands at £299

Vale / Club A / Village A / Farm Curve are in un covered grandstands at £269

It’s going to be summer so hopefully the chance of rain is small (year right) so i don’t think that’s a huge issue but what is the most exciting place to watch from. I was thinking Vale looks quite good ?

Cheers

went last year, unless you are willing to get up at 6ish on the sunday then you arent goning to get a great view from the trackside. Get grandstand tickets, atleast you will be able to see the track and be sitting comfortably! (probably opposite a big screen as well!) They do make a **** load of noise though!

Have you looked into going to Turkey instead?

ISTR you can buy flights and tickets for less than the tickets alone for Silverstone.

IIRC the track is quite far away from the Vale grandstand but this might not be a problem for you (you get a wider angle and can see more probably). If you get basic access (bronze) then the reality is you get into the track as early as possible, mark your territory with your chairs then don't leave all day. If you plan to only do this once I'd suggest you go for a grandstand, the view is top notch and you'll have a great day. Remember to take a radio to listen to the commentary. If you have an android or iphone I'd get the official F1 lap so you can see the current positions as well, unless you watch the diamond screen constantly it's sometimes hard to keep up with what else is happening.

As much as i love F1 i would not pay 300 quid! Could get a holiday for that!

Or i could go on a holiday as well ;) Sure it’s expensive but it’s just one of those things :p

Have looked into a few foreign options, a mate did turkey and wasn’t too impressed, there are no hotels nearby and he said the taxi firms know your English and royally rip you off. The packages you can buy seem to be quite expensive also. We were thinking Spa or Nurburgring if we were going to go abroad and may do that as well as Silverstone.

No way we want Bronze, we will be drinking all weekend and if I’m honest i won’t be getting up super early so looks like grandstand is the way to go. Ill make sure we take some kind of small radio. I don’t think being a little further from the track will be a bad thing, little less noise and a better view sounds good :)

I have been to Silverstone 4 times in the last 6 years. Bronze is now dead.

Bronze used to be epic, you could sit anywhere from Becketts all the way round to Bridge with great views. Club corner banking was great as you got a view from Stowe right through to the Abbey Chicane.

However, first they built a grandstand on half the bank at Club, then the built one on the straight to Abbey, and then this year that will be the start finish straight so I would assume the whole area will be Grandstand only. They have also got rid of the large Bronze area infront of the Maggots/Becketts grandstands.

So, you will definately need a Grandstand ticket. I had a Grandstand last year. You get an allocated seat for the Sunday, but a roaming ticket for Friday and Saturday so you can sit in any grandstand. Naturally, I sat everywhere.

On Sunday we were in Luffield B, which overlooks the complex and final corner. It was a good spot on the old layout, but with the new layout you would want to move round one to Woodcote A to get a view down the new straight from the Arena section. With the start finish straight moving, these tickets might be less in demand this year.

On the Friday and Saturday we moved around. the Arena grandstands are good for views of the Arena section, and you are quite close to the track. However, your view is limited to just the Arena section. The BEckectts grandstand opposite is higher up, so not only do you get a view of the epicly fast Maggots/Becketts complex, but you can also see over to the Arena and down the Wellington straight (might want a zoom lense though). The only issue with this grandstand is it isnt covered, so if it rains, you get wet, and if it doesnt, you will be sunburnt, guaranteed.

Stowe grandstands are ok, although not covered. Then you are round to the as yet non existant new start finish straight grandstands. The new pit building will block your view of the Vale, so you are limited to a view of the main straight only. For the same reason I was never interested in the old main straight grandstands, these will be a waste of time. Other than the start you will see no action.

So, my recommendations are either Woodcote A or Becketts if you don't mind being uncovered. But make sure you move around on Friday and Saturday though.

Oh and also, with Bronze we were arriving at the track at 5:30am and fighting for a space. With a Grandstand you rock up when you feel like it and wander into your seat :)

Can you get tickets from Luffield? Seen the race from there, the straight after copse and 3 bends complex and of all the places luffield gave the best view by a mile (this was before the change of design but it should be just as good still).

edit: above is a lot better, do that :)

I've only ever been to Magny Cours in France and it was a fraction of the cost of Silverstone. However, I will never camp again.

You wouldn't get much of a holiday for £300 lol!

Also, don't bother going to the Turkey GP, a mate went and said the atmosphere was rubbish compared to Silverstone!

Guessing the best place to camp is Whittlebury ? Works out about £180 for 4 people / 1 tent / 1 car ... Reallll cheap weekend :p

I considered going to Silverstone last year but I just couldn't justify the costs when I realised how much effort was needed just to get good seating.

Shame as I really enjoy F1

You can get decent views from general admission tickets, but you need to get up reeeeeaaaally early to get them. Did this a few times before we started to get grandstand tickets :)

We were sat waiting on Luffield at 6am on Qualifying and 5am on Race day and even then it was packed!

Haha yeah we did this in 2008, it rained constantly between 5am until the race started and got absolutely soaked, great day :D

Pretty much what Skeeter said (we both went last year). Luffield B (covered) gave us a great view on the race day but you can sit anywhere on Friday and Saturday if you have a grandstand ticket. Seeing F1 live with the noise and atmosphere is just unbelievable and has to be done!

Love it, best weekend of the year! Becketts this year should be fully enclosed and apparently there will be a "Henman Hill" built on the side of the new section.
