Does anyone know where I could find official (or as official as they get) F1 attendance figures for last year? I think it would be interesting to rank all the current circuits based on attendance at Race Day.

Bernie has once again tried to blame someone else for small crowds at a race this weekend, completely missing the point that it may be due to bland new tracks in uninterested countries. I think attendance is a good measure as it shows how many people are prepaired to go to that race. A measure of how good the track/racing is, and also a measure of the F1 interest in that country/region. People who arent interested in F1 or dont want to watch a boring race wont go.

Im willing to bet nearly all Tilke built tracks are in the bottom half!

Not all of the tracks are rubbish, I actually really like Turkey. Its just they seem to be a bit bland and sterile, and are combined with being built in the new countries that Bernie wants to go to where nobody seems interested in F1.

Even a bad track in an F1 mad country will be popular (Barcalona).

Only something like 1000-2000 people at Free Practice this morning according to 5Live.

Well done Bernie. Taking F1 to countries whose population can't afford to go see it.

Didn't you hear about his plans for F1 in Somalia?!

Turkey's not bad, granted..

As I have said countless times Austria was a tilke track and was the best track on the calendar for exciting races with overtaking. It was also in a nice setting.

It threw up more overtaking than Silverstone, Spa and Suzuka combined.

Ther's nothing really wrong with the tracks he makes, it's more to do with the cars that run round them.

Skeeter you mention Barcelona, well until recently I was going there for years and I can tell you before Alonso came on the scene it was pretty dead too. After he came along the place was rammed. Prior to that If you had a grandstand ticket they wouldn't even hold you to the stand on your ticket, you could go anywhere it was so empty in comparison to how it is now.

was anyone listening in 2nd practice where you can get Turkish tickets for £30-£100 if you buy in turkey. But if you buy in England it's about double that.

Now who lives in Turkey.

The three-day attendance figure for Silverstone last year was about 310,000. 120,000 of that was race day.

As a comparison, if the NASCAR Cup race at Texas on Sunday sells out, they'll have a crowd of over 150,000. At Bristol Motor Speedway earlier in the year, which did sell out, they got 160,000 in on race day. Plenty of tracks on the NASCAR tour can't take that many people, of course (can only get 63,000 into Darlington for example), but then F1 could only get 50,000 in to the Abu Dhabi GP because that's the crowd capacity. Last year, the race in China saw only about 30,000 attend - and how many of those were actual paying race viewers and not just celebs and politicians on a freebie? They look like repeating that poor figure this year as well.

I'm surprised that no-one has been citing costs as a reason for poor attendance figures.

I looked at a few GPs and Singapore and china were the cheapest, but on average it was over £250-450 for a decent ticket.

If it was £50 i'm sure they'd sell a lot more.

What I paid about £120 for an early booked start finish straight grandstand seat at the barca gp for 3 days. Barca is nowhere near the £250 you have quoted. I presume you are looking through an agent rather than booking with the circuit direct?

That would rely on Bernie dropping his charges for hosting GPs. You cant flog tickets cheap if you need to make millions of pounds from the event to just cover costs!

Anyone notice the "MADE WITH CHINA" grandstand at this weekends GP. Has anyone ever seen these grandstands with people in? Why build a track if even the biggest event there doesnt fill the stands...?

Have any of the new tracks ever 'sold out'?
