Almost but not quite a link & run, but I found the following on PF1 forums and thought I *had* to share it:

Formula 1 1990 Season Review (2hrs!) :D
Probably one on my VERY favourite seasons but watching it again got me thinking: notice the sheer amount of overtaking and it occuring on tracks now regarded as being 'impossible' to overtake on. The Hungarian race is one of the best of the season for it for heaven's sake!

Still think the tracks are the problem? :o

BTW if Bernie is reading this (long shot I know!) if the French GP comes back, can we please have it at Paul Ricard rather than Mangy Bore?

1990 was one of my favourite seasons, I would have been 11 and by that time was old enough to have a proper interest in F1. I so wanted Cappelli to hold off Prost at Paul Ricard.

Yeah, older F1 was fantastc, lets all go back to the 70's where everyone died all the time...

I'm not sure what the rolleyes is for?
No-one has said they'd like to see more death in the sport...

Merely saying that it looked more exciting in older footage. It's not really something that can be argued with really.

Don't worry Skeeter no-one died in the making of this film!

To me it seemed like the 1989/1990 era was the perfect balance between technology and pure racing. You had the emmergence of the semi-auto gearbox, high nose etc and yet aero grip was at a premium still so mechanical grip was still king.

Clearly my sarcastic comment was completely missunderstood.

It was a jibe at the latest in a routine posting of "OMG MODERN F1 IS PANTS OLDER STUFF WAS BETTER!" threads.

Older F1 was different, some say better, some not, but its never coming back so stop whining about it and enjoy what we have now.

Clearly. Might have had something to do with the fact that you were talking about '70s F1 and this thread is (so far) about early '90s F1, of course :)

It's definitely not coming back, and never could - it'd be far too expensive to give teams the kind of free reign that they had back then. But as for ending complaints about current F1....why? How is it going to improve if no-one criticises it?

My bad, need a "this is definitely sarcasm" smiley on OcUK! :)

I don't see this as a thread whining about F1. It's forever evolving, some years it will be more exciting than others.
Due to the lack of downforce they had, it was more exciting. Dirty air is what spoils racing these days. Although I'm still more than happy to watch F1, I agree that there's too much complaining.

Edit: Love the incident ~1h 25m, looks absolutely horrific, but the wreckage luckily doesn't get hit by the other cars.
*Clambers out of upside down car, runs off to get spare car* :D

Lol, I thought the rolleyes was the official 'tongue in cheek, taking the ****' smiley.

These threads just always fill with people saying that what 2011+ F1 needs is 1970's/80's/90's regulations, which just wont happen.

We'll be stuck with awful aero rules forever but they'll get it right one day... Maybe.
A lot of people already seem to be writing this season off after the DRS system "didn't work" at Melbourne.
I saw a very ignorant BBC news report by an absolute idiot, who had no right to report on the subject, on Sunday. The gist was basically, "all these changes and it's as boring as ever..."
I remember many people whinging after the first race last year. 2011 was a decent watch imo.

 1h 37 in this video... Donnelly lying on the track, an awful sight.

Several classic races that season but the very best had to be Mexico, not least for THAT overtake by Mansell on Berger. Shame the review doesn't have the BBC commentary as Murray's surprise was brilliant :D

The report on the evenings news that was full of total rubbish about the race? How Vettel vanished and finshed miles ahead, how Hamilton broke his floor driving over the grass while on screen showing the floor broken before getting to the grass, and the "the first overtaking using the new adjustable wing.... aparently" comment? I nearly threw my remote at the TV. The reporter clearly didnt give 2 ***** about it. Massively unprofessional from the BBC.
