Bring back the June test at Silverstone please! :)

Formula 1 teams will be asked to support a move from FIA president Jean Todt for a return of limited in-season testing next year.

Todt believes that the introduction of a total ban on testing during the season from the start of 2009 has been a failure, which is why he is now pushing for a limited amount of running to be allowed.

"For me, it is a stupid decision to have no testing during the season," Todt said during a media briefing in Turkey on Sunday morning.

"In the past it was crazy to have unlimited testing during the year, but to go from unlimited to completely banned, it is not the right measure. It doesn't allow young drivers to test, it doesn't give the opportunity for young drivers to learn some experience in F1, and I will make sure that this situation will change for the future.

Totally agree with him, bring it back sell track tickets for dirt cheap, if they could film it and show it online or red button, even better.

Or have testing on the Monday after every third race or something. Would cost the teams next to nothing as cars and equipment are already there.

Use a couple of mondays after races that have longer gaps after them, make all teams enter to spread the costs between them all and only allow the teams to use young drivers who aren't either of the main drivers.

Perfect, now only if f1 was so sensible.

What F1 needs more than anything is young driver tests. Since the ban on testing it is very difficult for a new guy to get in and be competitive, as he will have had little to know exposure to the car.

Totally agree with the Monday test idea. Make it non race drivers only, so they can test using young drivers etc, and it will mean there is less chance of it being a technical test as they aren't going to fly out parts to test on a Monday that they wouldn't have already got ready for the Friday.

Then have a 3 day test at Silverstone in the summer break for technical testing with race drivers. And open it to the public for £10 tickets like it used to be!

F1 only needs 3rd driver testing. All they need is unlimited tyres for Friday for driver 3. Generates lots of interest on the friday and gets the 3rd driver lots of mileage.

There should be no testing in season for the main contenders. It's not needed. Mclaren have shown time and time again that you don't need to spend time pounding the circuits racking up miles.

The most competitive seasons in years and there has been no testing.

I agree danny.... if you only look at the top teams.

Look at Lotus, Virgin and HRT. Would they still be this far off the back of the field if they had been allowed to test? Yes top teams don't benifit much from in season testing, but for junior teams, just as with junior drivers, there is massive benefits to be made.

Junior driver testing on a few Mondays, and 1 3 day open test mid season will be all thats needed.

I do think they should put the mid season test on a non race circuit though. Avoid the Barcelona effect.

Hmm good point but I suppose if they had the extra financial burden they might not even be there in the first place. Atleast with a race weekend test for the 3rd driver they are already there and so are pirelli who also would have to pick up the cost of extra tyres.

A tough decision as to whether it would benefit the back markers unless you only allowed them to test, as in previous years they never upset the status quo by testing and it cost them more money.

Teams that have scored points can only race their reserve drivers but teams that have yet to score points (or haven't for 1 calendar year) may use their race drivers? Seems like a fair trade off?

I don't see the need, just allow reserve or new drivers. Big teams are so near to perfect they are looking for thousandths of a second, the new teams are looking for tenths, they will gain more relative to the front teams, if they can afford to test new parts and run.
So as long as it's finically viable then it would be good.

Ferrari seemingly struggling to develop a competitive car, now former Ferrari boss suggests more testing ;)
