So you personally have bought a device/part of a device partially for its looks.
Therefore I assume you see no problem in someone thinking that a iPad looks nice and factors it into their purchasing decision?
Personally I have a Mac Pro and my god its built well. Definition of built well for a desktop being: heavy, sturdy, no sharp edges, smooth joins, easy to get in/out of, etc.

Nope, im referring to the cooling method. Sucking in air from the bottom and ejecting it out the top. A bit different from what the regular setup for a case is.
And yet they can still be dropped.
AcidHell made the point, it was in reply to that, if you go back to the last page and read it, you'll see where. It certainly wasn't directed at anyone here, just making a point, pretty relevant to the thread topic and the subject of discussion. I'm sure some people, mainly apple, will claim it is revolutionary, this was just a point based on that view. Grasping for some ammunition again, could we let it go please?
And what does heat have to do with how likely something is to be dropped?
Well it's an argument based on the design, an advantage to using aluminium over plastic, since that's what you're debating it can't be ignored completely.
And it is new and hasn't been done before. It's not revolutionry though. It's a massive previusly untapped Market. It is the UI as well as increasing popularity of mobile browsing/Reading/movies that apple has tapped before others.

Geez, read back, when i posted about the heat, i wasn't referring to the dropping. It was about radiating heat from a product with no fans and holes. Hence aluminium is a better material for the iPad than plastic.
Which you ignored, all you picked out from my post was the fan boy part and ignore the conductive element of metal over plastic.
Suppose it all comes down to how hot the components get. I can't see the ipad generating that much heat considering what its meant to be used for.

Well this thread on apple support suggests it may generate a decent bit of heat, this guy had an error from it when using it outdoors.

I think I agree, tablets haven't really been exploited yet and have only really had small popularity, once again Apple has tried to get ahead of the game and bring them into the mainstream, like they did with the HDD mp3 player and touchscreen phones. It's a good thing for us consumers, as there's now a new market opening up and plenty of competitive manufacturers willing to give it a go. Where we disagree is that the ipad is a good purchase as it stands I guess. That depends on what you think it should be used for, what feature set you believe it should sport, and how much it should cost. I have different expectations from you, and I totally respect your opinion in that right, you're entitled to it, but we don't have to agree. I'm happy agreeing to disagree on this one.

Nothing much really, besides the marketing and the rivers of BS that come with the products. Funny thing is i'll probably have an iphone tomorrow as my brothers contract comes up for renewal and he went ahead and bought some new nokia phone instead of waiting till his contract ended. My second iphone at that, got my first one (the original) for £125.
I thought the iphone was a good product despite them taking ages over including mms and copy\paste, then when they did incorperate them it was some massive anouncement with hype for something that should have been in there on day one.
The ipad to me just seems like a massive gimmicky product (with the usual bs marketing and hype) thats going to drop off fast. Ive already seen a review where the guy that bought it is already bored of it after 50 or so hours.
Does it? I think they will have designed it so it won't overheat unless exposed to fairly uncommon conditions or if a fault is present. I do think that they probably test these things before making millions of them. Take it as it is, like it or not.
