F1 Jake plugging the ipad?!

BBC in promoting Apple "shocker"!

I sometimes wonder if the DG of the BBC is Steve Jobs' brother the amount of Apple advertising they do...

I know a few people who have brought them and are now selling their laptops. As they have no use for teh laptop anymore and will never use it. Having a play with them, they are extremely good, do what 90% of people need (unless you use it for specific work related tasks) and teh form factor makes it so much better than a laptop.

Without getting into this old argument again... I'm going to go onto facebook and play a ga.... ho, I can't... :p (not that I use facebook but...)

iPlayer works on iPhone/iPad.

Saw a review on the BBC news page and iPlayer didn't work to due lack of Flash. I thought I heard a rumour of a legal stand off over it.

"So, it's finally here. The iPad. And one of the frequent questions over the last few weeks has been if and when the BBC iPlayer will arrive on it. Most of you will be aware of the recent discussions around Flash not being available on the iPad and whether html5 be the answer."

Andi.

the Ipad only has WIfi don't it

I ll perfer a iPOD much smaller so no bugger nicks it

*Yes I admited I like the ipod* but not as a media player

Also I belive the Ipod/phone can do the same thing pretty much as the Ipad, apart from the IPAD being much bigger

He's responded on Twitter about him using an iPad, as he has obviously had a lot of questions asked about him using it. He said it was simply to replace his clipboard, as it holds all his notes, tweets and e-mails that he reads out.

I think it looks more professional than a clipboard, and it strikes me as being the kind of thing the iPad is actually useful for. That said, I'd imagine it's hard to read in the sun, when you consider they are outdoors all the time. I also doubt he could make a quick note like he could with his clipboard when the camera turns to David or Eddie.

I personally think Apple would have been on to a winner if they had designed a way to use the iPad as a tablet that you could also write on using a traditional stylus pen, it would have been ideal for that kind of note taking application.

Apple hate styluses and pens, there are plenty of other tablets that have/will have pen input however so just have a look around and see, unfortunately because they don't have an Apple logo on the front they are a lot harder to find... But I agree it is a good use for one.

A current tablet by another brand wouldn't fit the bill though.

Full OS that wasn't modified for touch input, heavier, slower, and to cap it off far worse battery life.

Not having a go at anyone in particular but I find the mix of hatred/jealousy/anger at this inanimate object incredible.

Why not use one of the Android/propriotory OS tablets then? The iPad is about as unique as my shoe at the moment, there are dozens of tablet/slate machines being released and already released in the last few months, the CES show a month before the iPad was launched proved that with a couple of dozen or more slates/tablets on display.

I think Jake's found one legitimate use of the iPad I've seen so far. Fits in perfectly with F1's progression into real-time digital feeds from teams and the like.

You could read a newspaper on it but you can’t fold it to do the crossword and scribble on it to work out clues. It’s also not too comfortable in one hand. ;)

There have been h264 streams available which work on the iPhone since shortly after the iPhone's release. So I'd've assumed it worked on the iPad as well - or would with some simple recognition in the BBC's code. Apparently they've already done this, and it will link you to here:

I missed it - did he ever use it? :p
He admittedly spent most of his time awkwardly clutching it. It really needs some kind of grippy sleeve to stop it looking precariously close to being dropped :D

Mind you he was regularly referring to it and even used it to show Mark Webber a video.

What's with all the iPad hate ?

Jake was first using it two weeks ago in the Monaco GP, scarily close to the jacuzzi!

Out of interest, those here slagging off the iPad:
A) Have you used one? Else you won't really know what you're talking about....
B) Can you afford one? As there's always the 'zomg I'm jealous. I'll just **** it off to make me fell better' element of peoples criticism.

Funny this is, I've had mine for over two weeks now. Initially friends were 'iPads are **** and a waste of money', but now they've used one they want one themselves!

They also mentioned Hamilton brought one back over for Heiki Kov and charged him commision!

iPad is just the latest cool new toy - everyone has to be seen with it in our materialistic world.

Tablet PC's have been around for years, but Apple have the marketing grunt to make people really want an oversized iPhone.

You have to admit however, it's better than a clipboard! Star Trek is finally here!

the thing is it's not a tablet PC, tablet pc's have a full OS on them. Hard to use, bulky and generally rubbish battery life.

That is the difference. The Iphone at the end of the day is a phone and has a small screen. The IPad is portable media device.

Dare I say, someone's found a use for one! Just need the people on Sky News to start using something less bulky now.
