haha, I though a post like this would crop up... I actually have a G27 and wheels, a powerful PC - minus the graphics card... and a PS3 with F1 2011...

Problem with F1 2011 is that it's really bad with regards to the frame rate on the PS3.

I think I might just persevere with it though, and just buy a wheelstand pro lol.

We're talking simulators as opposed to enjoyable games though, it's no iRacing...

Then you should have said rubbish as a sim :p

Once finished, CARS will be better than all others mentioned in this thread. They seem to have F1 cars in there, but I couldn't comment too much on it.

Went karting at rye house (near enfield) and they had some f1 style things labelled as simulators, didn't ask what they were tho.

he wants a real sim like what drivers practise with not games though

Certainly the GP2 teams, and some of the F1 teams use simulators based up Rfactor .... so yes, real sims "like what drivers practice with not games"
You'll also find real drivers racing regularly on iracing (Dale Earnhardt Jr for example is a regular on the oval side)

I've tried one of the GP2 teams simulators and the biggest difference is probably the hardware. A G27 is decent for the money .. but their wheel uses a £2000 motor that is incredibly powerful. A load cell brake pedal is also a big improvement, but you can modify a G27 to take one relatively cheaply.

Software wise, a lot of rfactor mods are terrible in terms of realism (although there are also some good ones) The GP2 simulator used a custom made version that used real world data from the team.

Some of the very flashy commercial simulators are actually quite flawed, for example using projectors with terrible input lag or poorly adapted versions of rfactor etc.

In answer to the OP - forget F1 2011, in fact uninstall it right now! ... sign up to iracing. The combination of accurate cars, laser scanned tracks and a brilliant online racing structure is unbeatable.
The laser scanned tracks in particular are exceptional and make a massive difference - I will be using it to learn new circuits before I race at them.

the codemasters games are far from a simulation..... rfactor and Iracing is where you want to be regarding 'sim' racing.

Hi all,

Are there any decent F1 Simulators open to public use in the UK?

I just found this website in France:

http://uk.shop.i-way-world.com/norm...-5-min-qualif-30-min-race__coursef130min.html

Would love to have a go in an F1 sim, bit pricey those figures though!

I saw this the other day. Probably the same way you did. It's completely awesome...

I wouldn't say this is quite the same experience. Even with a FFB wheel you don't get the g force through your body. That feeling in your gut that tells you you're going sideways before you know you are... The games themselves I don't deny are accurate, but the real difference for sims is that lack of a g force seat basically..

Codemasters games are not good for sim. Shift 2 isn't bad, C.A.R.S is the best one off payment option. I racing and rfactor if you can afford it.

Yeah I can imagine that. Does anyone know of anything consumer-purchasable better than a g27?
