F1 Testing 2014: Week 2 Bahrain

do mclaren have a title sponsor yet?

dare i suggest they are running a bit lighter fuel for better times to try and attract someone?

For reference, the Dane's 1m34.910s is 2s quicker than last year's fastest race lap in the Bahrain GP.

Been say they are after a sponsor since the first test. That was a good lap on super softs with low fuel.

I predicted yesterday that by the end of the test the times would be high 1:34s or low 1:35s. It seems that it's going to be more like 1:33. The extra power and acceleration that the cars have will certainly help on this track.

Most parts are small and light enough to go on as carry-on luggage, or at least go in the hold. Plenty of stories of dogsbody engineers being sent out overnight with new front wings and bits of carbon fibre.

You'll probably find that the best organised teams will block hold seats on flights just in case any urgent factory jet-ins are needed.

yea someone on here who works at redbull said they did it , I think for spa last year or the year before.

Well it's a team (motor)sport with the constructors championship meaning much than the drivers' championship, which is more of a side show that too many people get hung up about.

The rule changes and reliability highlight the team aspect a little more.

Obviously in an ideal world we'd see more the teams and drivers performance quite close to each other so we'd get more varied results.

You think the Constructors is more highly valued than the drivers?

I think it should be but it isn't. It's like the FA cup, you only shout about it when you are can't win the league. The drivers title is all 99% of the world care about. It's what all the coverage is about and the whole panto.

Depends who we're talking about. The teams just want the constructors championship to help 'sell' the team/company/products. The drivers of course just care about drivers championship.
Fans? Depends if you follow a team / driver or maybe country.

McLaren are looking for sponsors, every F1 team is constantly looking for sponsors. But they aren't looking for a title sponsor. They have confirmed that this year they won't have one.

Dice, are you saying that teams are not (most of the time), looking for higher paying sponsors, or in McLaren's case a main title sponsor?

I think you work in F1, so you know a lot on this topic, so by all means enlighten us.

My way of thinking is that a big title sponsor is better than no sponsor. It makes sense to get the extra money. No team/company can afford to pass up extra money. The more money/income the better. At least that's what I'm thinking.

Personally, I think McLaren will have a main sponsor, in a few weeks time, for financial reasons.

Main sponsor sure. Title sponsor not likely.

Ignoring the fact the merchandise is already out, once the season starts your not allowed to change the team name.

I don't think Mclaren need a title sponsor or main sponsor this year. I saw an interview with Sam Michaels a couple of months ago where he stated how finanically sound and secure Mclaren are and how Mclaren don't need to have a title sponsor this year, and let's not forget that Mclaren do have a lot of other sponsors anyway. One year without a main or title sponsor isn't going to hurt them, we're not talking about a team like Marussia and their budget here...

Aren't the Honda engines effectively 'free' to McLaren too?

And I'll eat my hat if the 2015car doesn't have championship white all over it :).

I see Lewis just did a 1:35.505 on mediums epic stuff....

And Lewis just did a 1:34.8 which beats McLaren's best time.

On MEDIUMS :eek::D

Looks good taken at face value, but the usual proviso of "it's testing" still prevails. Nice to see the pace picking up regardless :)

Lewis just done a 1.34.2 and again on MEDIUMS!

Funny thing is he went even faster in sector 1 but then slowed down by 14 seconds.
While rb haven't set a time yet.
