F1 The big picture

I don't think he's all that.

Just had a look through his F1 'best of' on his site...and none of it impressed me really...he clearly is regarded by many as good so its probably just his style doesn't suit my eyes.

This is the only image I like...

I kind of agree with you Phate, there are some outstanding shots on his site, but, some that in my years of doing F1 photography from the Grandstands i would have discarded... suppose as you say its just his style.

See to me that image could've easily been something he's cocked up which he's processed into a sellable image.

It does nothing for me though...infact, I actually find it annoying to look at!

I'm with Phate, didn't think they were *that* good really. Some good close ups of the drivers, but that's what pit/paddock access does for you.

What do you love about it Wedge? :)

That it almost looks like a painting, whether it was but luck or judgement, i dont care ;)

Personally i dont think its that hard to get a good F1 shot, ive got some decent shots from silverstone from the stands, with my D90 and 55-200mm.

They are sharp but pretty boring.

The stuff this guys does i think is very creative, granted his access to the tracks no doubt helps, but still.

I like the fact he uses slow shutter speeds so creatively, to capture the speed of the sport, his composition and angles, his use of light, shooting into the sun creating cool silholettes, to name a few.

Some of the shots he has on best of F1 on his website really do not do justice to some of his shots over the years that I've seen in magazines. I wouldn't judge him on some of the stuff on his website.

Over the years some of his stuff has not only blown me away but also uncovered soem of the technology being used in the sport.
