Happened across this post about a Ferrari F40 LM (not original, road car modified) and thought I would share it.

This has wasted some good time at work having a read but I can't help it. I had a Burago F40 1:18 model when I was younger and have loved how they look since, and now I'm older I appreciate the analogue driving experience I crave and then heritage associated with them too.

Got to love the attention to detail. For someone who loves the details and has a love for OCD shiny restored things it pleases me lots.

wow. that is rather excellent. going to bookmark and give it a proper going through this evening. nice find.

Mate has one he's rebuilding too in yellow @ Autofficina.

Nice motors.. would be a fun track toy for someone.

Useless on the road :)

Wow. Some amazing skill and workmanship going into that. I'm looking forward to reading the rest.

As a project I do prefer the BMW E30 M3 restoration which that guy carried out on his own. Same level of detail and obsession but he did it all himself!

Am I the only one here mortified to see a classic butchered like this?

If they wanted to make a fake LM F40 they didn't have to kill a genuine F40 to do it. They could have simply made a look a like replica and used more modern engine/turbos giving all the looks of a LM F40 but more performance and better reliability yet they chose to destroy a work of art :(

It was already a halfbreed race car. Started life as a factory built road car and was then substantially modified post Ferrari build by a privateer garage and was reasonably close to F40LM spec.

He's taking it the rest of the way, while also adding some extra features to make it more, well, not practical, sensible perhaps...

The aluminium tanks are a very sensible change. Converting that wiring  to something safer. Funny, the Italians discovered electricity. Shame they've never really got it to do any work reliably. ;)

I think he's saving it rather than ruining it. With those wiring issues and evidence of a fire already having happened, who knows how long it would have lasted otherwise.

I have to agree it's impressive that he wants to enhance it in certain areas but also retain it in others, so far he's made the right choices. The attention to detail on those arms is just staggering and titanium camber bolts... hunggggggg

Virtually all the cheap / crashed F40s are rebuilt as LMs due simply to the total lack of any spares for the Road cars and a glut of parts for the LM cars (as each team would keep many sets of spares per car back in the racing days)
